Are you planning to apply to the graduate program in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison? Are you looking for help with navigating the process?
The AOS Graduate Application Workshop is a free service designed to connect applicants with current AOS graduate students for informal one-on-one assistance with their application. After being matched with a mentor, prospective students can receive guidance on any steps of the application process. Subjects of mentorship may include writing the statement of purpose, curriculum vitae (CV), asking for letters of recommendation, contacting potential faculty/advisors, the international application/student visas, narrowing research interests, graduate student life, department culture, etc.
Any prospective students who intend to submit an application for Fall 2026 admission are welcome to sign up for mentorship. Furthermore, we encourage applicants not currently enrolled at the University of Wisconsin and students from under-represented and non-traditional backgrounds to request mentorship.
The AOS Graduate Application Workshop is now open and accepting registrations through December 1st!
This program is managed entirely independent from the AOS admissions committee and department faculty/staff. Participants’ anonymity will thus be maintained from these bodies. The opinions and views expressed by AOS graduate mentors are their own and do not represent those of AOS or UW-Madison. All mentorship is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and is contingent upon each graduate mentor’s individual availability.
*As we have a limited number of AOS graduate volunteers, mentorship may close prior to the posted date. This is dependent on our ability to support the volume of requests we receive. Applicants are encouraged to request mentorship early!
