Horizons Week
November 20-24, 2023
November 20-24, 2023
Dear students and parents,
Horizons Week embodies everything we believe in as a school and is an opportunity for students to embrace the school's values of commitment, community, compassion, consideration and courage and so I am delighted to share the exciting range of local activities that we have on offer for Horizons Week 2023.
Horizons Week is the highlight of the school year as students embark on experiences that are not possible during the regular school day. During this week, students are encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and develop resilience as they greet new challenges head on. Students gain a sense of personal achievement from their endeavours during this week and new friendships are formed. Horizons Week develops the whole person through creative, active and empathetic engagement with the world around us and through their participation, students authentically manifest West Island School's values and the IB Learner Profile.
All students select 2 experiences; they must be happy with participating in any of those chosen. Students will not be able to change their minds once choices have been submitted. Please note: Horizons Week registration is completed through the student's WISDOM account.
Included in this year's programme:
Creative options ranging from baking, film workshops and technology coding courses
Activity opportunities include hiking around Hong Kong, water sports and netball coaching and umpiring
Service commitments supporting marginalised communities as well as working for more familiar partners in Hong Kong
Student Leadership opportunities
Costings: There is a scale of costings for our activities. We have worked hard to include a range of affordable and enjoyable learning opportunities that are within everyone's scope and interest.
Please read carefully the 2023 Horizons Week Policy and the Frequently Asked Questions on the 'documents and policies' page, in particular, the section on refunds due to illness. If you are in receipt of any financial support from ESF, please reach out to me separately should you require assistance.
I invite you now to look at the proposals for 2023.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
