Project location: Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt. Ltd., Becharaji, Gujarat
Need: A natural drain used to pass through the plot of the Maruti Suzuki plant, but as the plant was being constructed the natural water flow was being hindered. So, a long reservoir was constructed on the edge of the plant connecting the drain. Yet, water logging was a persistent issue with the premises of the plant. To address this issue and to comply with statutory guidelines, a series of recharge structures were constructed.
Work done:
Sujalaam has helped in technical analysis to do the groundwater recharge for such a large site and shared the design brief report to make the recharge structures across the site.
There were 26 locations identified and a man made reservoir along one entire edge of the site was created to solve the need.
The Class - V Infusion well system has been built to recharge the water at shallow sub surfaces of the strata. A stainless steel V wire screen has been installed for the initial filtration to happen at entry level of the pipe from the reservoir to recharge well.
There are two structures - one is a desilting pit and the second one is a recharge borewell with a filter mechanism.
After the initial filtration the water enters into the desilting pit in which soil and sediments in the water get settled here and water runs into the second well.
In the second pit, a filter is fit above the borewell. This filter is made of two concentric SS V wire screens of different diameter holes (Inner screen in cylindrical shape with 6” dia. and out screen in 12” dia with 2m of total depth). A packing of filter media is done in between these two concentric screens. The water’s secondary filtration happens here before recharging at about 150 feet depth in the aquifer.
About 28,500 cubic meter of Rainwater is recharged through 26 recharge structures.
The man-made reservoir is built of the capacity of 43000 cubic meter.
Benefits:
Water quality has improved over 3 years.
Water logging problem on site has been taken care of and also retained the existing connection between two reservoirs through a channel.
