As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we invite our school community to join us in creating a playlist that honors the rich and diverse musical traditions of Hispanic culture. Think about your favorite Hispanic artist, band, music style, or those irresistible beats that make you want to move. Whether it's salsa, reggaeton, cumbia, bachata, or any other genre, we want to hear from you! Share the songs that inspire you, and let’s come together to celebrate the vibrant rhythms and sounds that represent Hispanic heritage.
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we invite members of our community to share personal stories that highlight their Hispanic or Latino heritage. Whether it’s a family tradition, a memorable cultural experience, or your own unique journey, we would love to hear and celebrate these moments with you. You can also upload photos that reflect your heritage, which we will proudly share with our community. Let’s come together to honor and celebrate the stories, histories, and vibrant cultures that make up our Hispanic and Latino community.
"One of my favorite things about being a Windward student is the emphasis the community puts on celebrating diversity. As a member of the Latin Affinity Group, Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated from mid-September to mid-October, has always been especially important to me. Seeing my mom, along with other students’ parents lined up behind booths and handing out traditionally Latin food, drinks, and candies on the bridge, highlights not only how special it is that I get to celebrate my culture with those in my family, but also how I get to share it with all the other students and teachers at my school. By recognizing our differences and continuing to celebrate our diverse identities, Windward’s community will not only be more informed, but also strengthened and unified by our cultures."
"Being a member of the Latinx Affinity Group has given me a space to explore and talk about parts of my identity with people who share similar backgrounds as me. During Hispanic Heritage Month, the Windward community is given the opportunity to hear various stories and come together to celebrate Latin culture. I feel lucky to get to be a part of this celebration and share a piece of my identity with my peers that they might not know about. Hispanic Heritage Month is special to me because I get to spend time recognizing and appreciating my mom’s culture as well as the cultures of other members of the school. Celebrating Windward’s diversity allows and encourages our community to continue to learn more and value our differences. "
