Reading–both for pleasure and as a required activity–is one of the most important activities that students can engage in to support their overall social, emotional, and academic development. With regard to academics, research demonstrates that reading helps to improve students' concentration, critical thinking skills, memory, and vocabulary. Emotionally and socially, studies show that reading can improve self-esteem, reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance social skills.
