College and Career Counseling Page
Since 1920, The Scholarship Foundation of St. Louis has been committed to supporting students seeking postsecondary education. As we begin 2026, the Foundation continues to provide direct assistance to students and their families through awarding scholarship grants and interest-free loans; advising on affordability and financial aid; and student-led advocacy on higher education policies.
Awards, Eligibility, & How to Apply
The Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2026-27 academic year and interested students may apply online at Scholarship Central. All applications and supporting materials must be received by 11:59pm on April 15, 2026.
Applicants for The Scholarship Foundation’s grant programs must be permanent residents of the program’s eligible service area (more than two years) or graduate from an eligible high school. Geographic eligibility varies by program and applicants should carefully read eligibility criteria. For answers to frequently asked questions, please review and share our FAQs with students. For a complete list of our scholarship grant and student loan programs, including detailed information about each opportunity, visit the Student Grants and Loans page on our website.
Advising & Workshops
The Foundation knows that students need accurate, objective, and timely information with which to make important financial decisions. Our student advisors work directly with students and families as they navigate the complex path to postsecondary education. We regularly offer free, public workshops focused on college affordability and how to avoid accruing excess debt, with topics including Financial Aid Basics, FAFSA, and Decision-Making. To view upcoming dates, please view our workshop schedule. We also invite you to view and share any of the resource materials available in our library. Finally, our advisors are often available to facilitate workshops for your students and families at your location. Click here to view our advisor's bios and schedule a meeting.
About Us
In 2025, the Foundation awarded $5.419 million in scholarship grants and $1 million in interest-free loans to 546 students in the St. Louis region. Through our programs and services, The Scholarship Foundation ensures that access to postsecondary education is available to members of our community who would otherwise not have the financial resources to fulfill their educational goals. We believe in the transformative power of education and that an educated society is essential to a healthy democracy. To learn more about us and our work, please visit www.sfstl.org.
Please let us know if, and how, we can be of assistance to the students in your community. Thank you for all you do.
With gratitude,
Teresa

Some scholarships may require students to submit an official copy of their high school transcript or letters of recommendation with their application.
Depending on the scholarship requirements, letters of recommendation may come from school staff or personal contacts. It is the school’s policy that ALL letters of recommendation will be provided confidentially. Like letters required for college applications, it is suggested that students waive their rights to see their recommendations for scholarships. This policy protects our students by ensuring the validity of each letter.
IMPORTANT: The Counseling Office is closed when school is not in session. Plan accordingly.
Tips for Submitting Scholarship Applications and Documents
Like transcript requests for college applications, Transcript Requests for scholarships should be submitted online to the Counselor's Office at least 10 days before the scholarship deadline. This is especially important for scholarship applications that may require our office to mail (by USPS) paper documentation instead of submitting it electronically via e-mail, facsimile, or website upload.
Provide ALL information with your transcript request including:
the name of the scholarship
the deadline for receipt of all documents (or postmark date deadline)
address documents need to be sent to
instructions for letters of recommendation
Paper copies of official transcripts will only be given to students in sealed envelopes which are stamped as “official”. Do not open the envelope or the document will no longer be considered official.
Provide at least two weeks notice to your recommenders so they have time to write a thorough letter on your behalf. If the scholarship does not require a letter of recommendation, do not ask for one.
