Identity

“The things that make me different are the things that make me.” – Winnie The Pooh.

Questions to reflect on while reading:

  • How do we stay true to who we are?

  • What is special about your family?

  • What are some of your family’s special traditions?

All together: What makes you special? This activity gets the children to think about their identity as an iceberg - there's only a small amount people can know just by looking at you. What really makes you 'you' lies beneath the surface and people won't know these things until they get to know you. The moral of the lesson being that we shouldn't judge people on what we see or hear, get to know the whole iceberg (person!)

The Proudest Blue

Faizah knows the first day of school is going to be special. Best of all, it's her older sister Asiya's first day of hijab--a hijab of beautiful blue fabric, like the ocean waving to the sky. But not everyone sees hijab as beautiful, and in the face of hurtful, confusing words, Faizah will find new ways to be strong.
