Summer enrichment classes are taught by Winchester Public Schools teachers and staff. Our hope is that you will find a class that will keep your children engaged and excited to learn something new. Classes will be kept small to foster connection and build community.
Classes will run if there are enough students signed up.

Each week we will focus on a DIFFERENT "theme," focusing our creativity on art projects and other activities related to that theme. We will also utilize building toys, drawing tools, and playdough to express our imaginations and inventiveness. Then, we will energize our bodies while calming our minds with yoga and a variety of body movement games and exercises targeting strength, flexibility, and coordination. Children will learn to focus, calm, and center themselves through breathing and visualization exercises, and then “turn on” their silly sides as they enjoy fun yoga games, music, and storytelling. Opportunities to integrate self-expression and reflection will be built into each day! Your child should bring a yoga mat or beach towel, a water bottle and snack each day.

Do you like to build with Legos? Come join us for a cool summer program where you can build to your heart's content! We will have time for indoor free play, snack and outdoor play for some fresh air. In addition to building, there will be a daily theme where we will play a game, try a Lego challenge, or make a Lego craft. Legos will be provided and while we cannot send home your child's creation, we can save it for parent viewing. If time permits during the last few minutes of class, we will show some very cool, age-appropriate Lego stop motion videos.

Come take your stories to the stage! Explore imagination through aspects of theater, including improv games, storytelling, movement, and music. The session will start with playful building of skills, then proceed into project based activities as students create their own characters, scripts, scenery, and costumes. We will occasionally take the class outside, using nature as both inspiration and performative space. Make new friends through theater's focus on teamwork and self-expression.

Are you passionate about fashion design? Do you want to learn how to make a sketch for a dress, shirt, pants, or skirt and then sew it using fabric? If so, get ready to embark on an exciting journey into the world of fashion design! This beginner's class is your gateway to mastering the rewarding craft of making clothes. Join Mrs. Sullivan (aka Miss Costello) on a visual arts journey in the Lincoln School art room for a fun vacation week of art making. ArtJet is a Studio Art program for young artists to see and be inspired by Art around the globe along with fun and rigorous explorations into drawing, painting clay sculpture and recycled materials.
Each day the art room is set up with artifacts, resources, and travel videos of the daily destination to inspire young artists. Locations this Summer may include: China, India, France, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Mexico and Japan. The students will help design the journey by researching personal interests and exploring their favorite studio media to create.
ArtJet is a morning course from 9-12 noon and will not be providing any food service. ArtJet students need only to bring a snack & beverage for a mid-morning break. ArtJet will supply the rest and help your young artist create, pack and fill their own designer luggage with souvenirs they create. Get set to take-off for a week of art-making!"

Lights, camera, action! Movie Making is a rigorous and fun process. Students will write a collaborative script together during the first few days. Summer Band and Orchestra will be offered to students entering grades 4-6 who have at least one-year playing experience on their instrument. This class includes hands on cooking experiences and engagement in motor and movement activities.

Students will learn the basics of kitchen safety, sanitation, and cooking! The students will receive instruction, demonstration, support, and supervision from a Winchester High School Culinary Arts teacher to prepare sweet treats as well as nutritious snacks. Once prepared the students will have the opportunity to enjoy the items and reflect upon the process and product.
Sports and More!
The students will have a chance to experience cooperative, problem solving, strategy games in noncompetitive situations. The primary focus of each session of Sports and More will center around team building through movement based activities.

Blueprint Innovators is an introductory course in architecture and design. Students in grades 6-12 will explore the fundamentals of architecture through engaging design challenges and projects. Students will learn how to create their own floor plans and exterior models using CAD modeling tools. Students will explore the engineering behind modern structures and buildings all around the world. This course offers a blend of art, technology, and practical skills. Interested in drawing? Curious about the natural world? Find yourself "calmed" when taking a walk in the woods? You might be a good candidate for exploring Scientific Illustration and Nature Journaling! In this course, we will practice truly seeing our surroundings (beyond that smart device!), and explore multiple ways to record what we learn. We will learn many options for telling stories about our natural world, including both quick field sketching and more detailed scientific illustration. This is a great way to unplug for a while, and don't worry, no drawing experience is needed!

This course is geared towards students who are anxious about their transition into Winchester High School. The class is led by a speech therapist and adjustment counselor at WHS, so there is a specific focus on special education. Students will be provided with several opportunities to tour the school, meet various faculty around the building, learn what to expect with navigating their schedules, ask as many questions as they want, and meet other incoming freshmen.
