Our commitment to developing responsible, empathetic children was at the heart of our assembly this week, continuing the fantastic themes from our whole-school focus on global citizenship.
This week’s assembly reminded all the children about our special link with communities beyond Northwich, particularly our long-standing partnership with Njoro DEB Primary School in Kenya. Our core message was simple but vital: we are all part of a single, global community, and it is important for us to learn about and appreciate different cultures and ways of life. This deepens our understanding and empathy, a key strength recognised in our school.
We shared the incredible true story of Wangari Maathai with all the children. Wangari was a Kenyan woman who saw a problem—deforestation and poverty—and decided to fix it by organizing women to plant millions of trees across her country.
Her inspiring story is a perfect example of dedication to Global Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities. She showed our pupils that every person, no matter their age or background, has the power to make a huge, positive difference in the world.
This half-term, we have transformed the way we teach some of our Geography curriculum by dedicating a whole-school focus to Kenya, rooted in our unique and long-standing partnership with Njoro DEB Primary School.
This initiative is more than just a topic; it’s a powerful example of how we deliver an ambitious, bespoke curriculum that genuinely prepares our children to be well-rounded, global citizens—a quality for which our pupils are highly praised.
By having the whole school study Kenya at the same time, we ensure a clear and progressive build-up of knowledge and skills across all year groups, directly meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum for Geography.
Progression of Skills: Our younger pupils in Early Years and Key Stage 1 have been building foundational locational knowledge and understanding human and physical geography by comparing the features of Wincham and Njoro. They are learning about daily life, climate, and culture.
Deepening Understanding: Our pupils in Key Stage 2 have been exploring the wider geographical region, delving into complex topics like trade, environmental challenges, and sustainable development.
Global Goals in Action: Crucially, this project has allowed us to integrate the UN Sustainable Development Global Goals directly into our lessons. Children are not just learning about the world; they are learning to think critically about its future and their role in it.
This unique link to our Kenyan partners and the Global Goals ensures the learning is meaningful and relevant to the children. It cultivates the empathy and cultural understanding that is a hallmark of a Wincham education.
I encourage you to ask your children about their learning this half-term!
Following our fantastic whole-school focus on global geography and our Kenyan partnership, I would like to invite you to our special Stay & Do Global Learning Open Afternoon next week!
This is a wonderful opportunity to see the inspiring work your children have produced and understand the depth of their learning about global citizenship and our link with Njoro Primary School.
When: Next Friday, starting at 2:45 PM
What to Expect: Children will be ready in their classrooms to share their project work, demonstrate skills, and talk about what they have learned about Kenya and the Global Goals. You are welcome to move freely between the classrooms to see the work of all your children across the school.
To ensure a smooth and safe process for all our pupils, please note the following:
Early Dismissal: If you wish to take your child home early, you may sign them out directly from their classroom once you are ready to leave.
Attendance Required for Early Release: Only children whose parents or designated carers attend the open afternoon will be allowed to leave before the usual end of the school day.
Non-Attendees: Any children whose parents are not attending will remain in class until the official end of the school day and must be collected as normal at normal pick-up time.
We look forward to welcoming you into school to celebrate our children's successful journey to becoming true global citizens!
Entry is £3 per child and adults are free.
We are thrilled to announce that the spectacular annual Wincham Halloween Disco is just around the corner! Get ready for an evening of spooky fun, fantastic dancing, and community spirit, all organised by our wonderful Wincham Family & Friends PTA.
Entry is £3 per child and adults are free.
When? Friday, 24th October Time? 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Where? The Community Centre
This is one of the biggest social events of the school calendar, and it’s a brilliant opportunity for the children (and grown-ups!) to come together for a great night out.
Here’s a taste of what’s in store at the disco:
Disco & Party Games: Get your dancing shoes on and show off your best spooky moves!
Terrifying Treats: Hot dogs and delicious baked potatoes with your choice of chilli or beans.
The Spooky Stalls: Try your luck at the Tombola, get a gruesome makeover at the Spooky Face Painting station, play fun Halloween Games, and dive into the Lucky Dip. Don't forget to Guess the Sweets in a Jar!
For the Grown-Ups: Our PTA will be running a Licensed Bar and Mocktail Bar for parents and carers to enjoy a catch-up.
Why is this important? Every penny raised from the disco goes directly back into the school to fund resources, equipment, and enrichment activities that benefit all our pupils. By attending, you are supporting our commitment to making Wincham a vibrant and well-resourced learning environment for every child.
Get ready for a spooktacular afternoon because the Treetops After School Club Halloween Party is here! Due to popular demand (our official naming party sold out incredibly fast!), we are opening bookings for our Halloween extravaganza on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025. Please note, this is a separate event to the WFF event on Friday 14/10/25.
The children are in for an afternoon packed with fun and games, delicious spooky food and treats, and a fantastic festive atmosphere. We have limited places available, and we expect them to be snapped up quickly, so please book soon to avoid disappointment!
A Quick Note on Costumes:
As the children will be coming straight to Treetops directly after the school day, we kindly ask that they do not wear full costumes to school. Instead, they are welcome to bring one or two small, fun, Halloween-themed items to pop on for the party, such as a witch's hat, a themed jumper, or some spooky accessories. We won't be able to help apply face paints! This keeps things safe and sensible during the school day.
How to Book:
Book your child's place online now at: https://wincham.hivelink.co.uk/ Please remember, usual Treetops session prices apply.
Don't miss out on what promises to be a wonderfully spooky and exciting afternoon!

When children and young people experience traumatic or difficult life events, their emotional world can be shaken, and the impact may show up in their behaviour, mood, or relationships. Whether it’s bereavement, a family breakdown or witnessing something distressing, the support of trusted adults can be key in helping them feel safe again. This guide looks at how to create a nurturing environment to help young people process difficult feelings.
It also shares clear, actionable strategies to promote recovery – from building emotional literacy and creating a predictable routine to recognising signs that further help may be needed. Sensitive language, patience, and presence all play a part in empowering children to move forward at their own pace. With the right support, they can rebuild a sense of security and resilience.
Many families are struggling with rising energy bills, and some risk fuel poverty. Citizens Advice Cheshire West, funded by CWaC’s Household Support Fund, runs a Heating bank to provide emergency help with heating costs.
The Heating Bank is designed for families and individuals who may be struggling to keep their homes warm this winter. By offering temporary relief with heating costs, the service aims to reduce the health risks, stress, and hardship caused by cold homes.
Last year, we supported around 1,000 households with an average of £233 each towards energy bills. The service is free, confidential, and offers quick assistance to households on benefits who are struggling to stay warm.
How to access the Heating Bank:
Families can apply directly https://www.citizensadvicecw.org.uk/heatingbank/
Support is available to households who are in receipt of benefits and struggling to meet their energy costs.
The service is free, confidential, and designed to provide quick assistance.
By working together, we hope to make sure no family has to choose between heating and other essentials.
The Live Well Newsletter will be published bi-monthly to provide you with latest updates and information. It is also your opportunity to get involved, have your say and improve our Live Well/Local Offer Cheshire West Website.
All previous newsletters can be found using the navigation bar at the top of the page under 'Home'
This folder is embedded in the newsletter each week. It contains all of the information sent out from school, so you can access anything you may have missed.
