Middlebrook Clubs and Activities 2021-22
Advanced Strings Advisors: Malcolm Karlan & Angelica Jara
Meets: Tuesdays 7:20 - 8:00 in the Band room
The club will give students the opportunity to play more challenging music than in the grade-level ensembles, and to interact with other dedicated student musicians. Enrollment will be open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, and the group will perform at the 7th-grade concerts. New members will be asked to perform an informal audition. Please see Mr. Karlan or Ms. Jara to sign up.
Middlebrook Cubers Advisor: Mr. Proto
Meets: Thursdays (Weekly) from 3:15-4:15 PM in the family consumer science room

Interested in solving Rubik's Cubes? This club is for you. Students can learn how to solve the allegedly impossible puzzle with other classmates and interact with students sharing the same interests. Students who already know how to solve the Rubik's Cube can learn from peers and get better! Students of all grades and skill levels will enjoy learning or getting better at the puzzle. This club is a fun addition to a child's agenda that he or she will enjoy. Contact Mr. Proto for more information!

This club will give students an opportunity to use communication, collaboration, math, strategy, and other skills to engage in historical miniature Wild West gaming scenarios and other non-electronic gaming options.
Esports/E - Gaming Club Advisor: Scott Silver-Bonito

This club gives the students an opportunity to develop strong social connections and comadre while playing different, popular video games. They also develop organizational skills and agency in organizing different, friendly tournaments.
Full Court Peace Advisor: Brandon Tegano

We find courts that need a fresh coat of paint and new hoops, and we rally with neighboring towns to get the work done. Boys and girls run shoe/equipment drives for used gear, and assist communities outside of Wilton in need. We run sports tournaments for grades 6-12, encouraging local business participation and emphasize on sportsmanship.

The Middlebrook “Go Green Team” is a group for students who are interested in getting involved in community service projects related to limiting waste and promoting more environmentally friendly practices at Middlebrook. Members of the “Go Green Team'' will work to plan and promote a “Zero Waste / Go Green” week in the Fall and Spring, and will meet monthly and as needed to discuss planning for these events and others throughout the school year, such as activities and events to promote sustainability, reuse, and recycling. M.A.V.En. (Music Audio Visual Enrichment) Advisor: Michael Gordon

We will learn about and practice the various skills used in running lights, sound, and video recordings for auditorium performances. Students will develop problem solving, creative thinking and interpersonal skills. Students interested in participating in M.A.V.En. should complete this sign up form.
Middlebrook Debate Club Advisors: Katie Durkin and Michael Panoli

The Middlebrook Debate Club introduces all middle school students to debate and public speaking. Debate club meetings address creating feasible arguments, speaking fluidly, and understanding fundamental civics. Games, lectures, and mock debates, during the weekly hour-long practices, will further bolster students’ comprehension of current events and parliamentary procedures, as well as, develop their logic and self-confidence. Ultimately, these skills will enable students to participate in a full-scale parliamentary debate hosted by the Connecticut Debate Association (CDA), where they will compete against clubs from other middle schools. Students learn to use green screens. edit videos, write scripts, and have their production aired on the local television. We are a peer mentoring program that meets after school and emphasizes peer collaboration in working towards success in school. This program is based on older students helping and supporting younger students as they discover their personal values and learn important life skills. Our goal is to foster a stronger sense of community as the students work together both academically and socially. Typically, 8th graders volunteer their time to work with 6th and 7th grade students to improve organization, study skills, and homework habits.
School Store Advisors: Lori Ellis and Tanya Leonard ellisl@wiltonps.org leonardt@wiltonps.org Monthly meeting and will meet some mornings when the school store is open more details to follow School Store will be organized by a group of students to sell needed school supplies and other products supported by clubs throughout the building - including products made by recycling club, Y2Y gear, PTA clothing, etc. Students will run the store and will determine what supplies need to be purchased. The School Store will be open several mornings a week in the LLC and once a month in the cafeteria.
Science Olympiad Advisors: Carol Festa, Debbie Mallozzi and Kendra Norman festac@wiltonps.org mallozzid@wiltonps.org normank@wiltonps.org Meets Mondays from 3:15-4:00 in room 7R 207 Starting 10/18/21 Students will prepare for more than 20 different competitive events ranging from content events such as Anatomy & Physiology, Meteorology, Solar System and Heredity to lab events such as Experimental Design and Crime Busters to engineering events such as Battery Buggy and Roller Coaster. The state competition will take place on Saturdays in March, 2022 - more details will be shared in the club meetings. Each student will be expected to prepare for and compete in at least three different events, but not more than one engineering event. Some needed materials will be supplied by the students. Members of Student Government plan and promote activities to enhance the student experience at Middlebrook. Through participation in Student Government students will gain experience serving as active members of their community and build leadership skills.

All club members will help make this year’s book the best one yet! Who should consider joining the yearbook club? Students that have talents for taking selfies and pictures, those gifted in organization and arrangement, and students looking to have fun while learning about putting a yearbook together will all enjoy this club.
