What are the types of scholarships?

• Merit scholarships are scholarships that are based on academics, athletic ability and artistic ability.

• Need-based scholarships are scholarships that are based on financial need.

• There are also scholarships available that do not fit into either of the above types. These could be based on your interests, religion, hobbies, where you live, or beliefs. If you don't fit into the two types, don't get discouraged. You just need to some searching.

Where do I find scholarships?

• Hunt High School - Check back on this page for monthly scholarship newsletters

• Your college's financial aid office / website

• Local organizations and churches

• If employed part-time, check with your employer and your parents' employers. Many chain / national employers have scholarships.

What types of things are included in a scholarship application?

• An official transcript is often required.

• Recommendation letters - Be sure to ask your teachers, counselors, etc in advanced. Do not wait until the last minute.

• Essays are often part of the application. Make the essays personal to you - write from the heart.

• Pay attention to the deadline. Make note of the due date and put it on your calendar.
