Mr. Andrew Childers is from Kings Mountain, North Carolina. He graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 2006. In 2010, Mr. Childers attended Wingate University on a music scholarship. While at Wingate University, Mr. Childers studied with Dr. Kenney Potter, Dr. John Blizzard, and Dr. Ron Bostic. During college, Mr. Childers was heavily involved in the study of vocal music (both individual and choral). He performed in University Singers, Chamber Ensemble, Men's Choir and also played in Jazz Band. Mr. Childers had the distinct pleasure of being the first student director of Wingate University's Men's Ensemble in 2009. Mr. Childers was also heavily involved in theatre as both a solo performer and technician. He has performed roles in Grease, The Big Friendly Giant, among others. He is a member of Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Fraternity and studied musical theatre and art abroad in London, England. While in college, Mr. Childers was Director of Music at New Hope Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC. Mr. Childers graduated from Wingate University in 2010 with a Bachelors of Music Education.
Mr. Childers is a member of both the National Association of Music Educator's and American Choral Director's Association.
Mr. Childers is dedicated to global teaching through music. His choirs compete in contests and festivals in North Carolina and in the surrounding regions. He states, "Traveling is not only exciting for our students, but also gives them an opportunity to see and hear what other programs are accomplishing. Festivals and contests are vital to our choirs continued experience and mission of excellence. I love taking students to new places that they may not have the opportunity to visit otherwise."
Mr. Childers also has led Hunt High School Chorus to eight years of superiors at North Carolina Music Performance Adjudication and four national titles (Orlando, Florida 2016, Washington, D.C. 2017, Atlanta, G.A. 2022 and Orlando, Florida 2023). Under Mr. Childers, Hunt High School has also had the distinct pleasure of being a featured choir at St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City.
In his spare time, Mr. Childers enjoys spending time fishing, playing tennis, hunting, giving solo performances, singing in church choir, and continuing his study of choral music. He currently lives in Wilson, North Carolina with his wonderful wife, Mrs. Casey Whaley Childers and their sons Jackson Gray and Phillip James.
