Lab Procedure
Using a ruler, index card, and play-doh clay- you will be modeling plate tectonics.
Using a rolling pin to flatten two different colored pieces of clay to about 0.5cm thick.
After you have flattened the play-doh, place the clay on top of an index card.
Place the two clay models side by side on a flat surface, paper side down.
Place one hand on each piece of clay, and slowly push the blocks together until the edges begin to buckle and rise off the surface of the table.
Turn the clay models around so that the unbuckled edges are touching each other.
Place one hand on each clay model. Apply slight pressure toward the plane where the two blocks meet. Slide one clay model forward 5cm and the other model backward about 5cm.
