The first step in the production process is cutting our wood down to size. We cut each piece to 16 inches long, plain it down to be 1 inch thick, and cut it to be 1 1/2 inches wide.
After our pieces are cut to size, we set up clamps to apply pressure for the gluing process. The glue is spread by a paintbrush and is left to sit overnight.
After the glue dries and the excess is scrapped off, the board pieces go back to the saw so each piece gets to be the same length as the shortest piece. Having all pieces be equal, it is cut into 1 1/2 inch thick strips, which are flipped onto their side to get that engrain look.
The end-grain strips are then assembled and staggered side by side, and glued up into a configuration that is unique and strong ensuring a quality look and feel.
Then we go to our CNC Router to smooth out any imperfections and add the optional handles if they were requested. After this, we cut off the uneven edges to give our cutting boards straight sides, preparing them for the final steps.
A good final sanding and the application of butcherblock conditioner get our boards a smooth, high-quality feel, ready to be sold on the open market.
Our finished boards then sit organized in the storage room, waiting to be shipped out to a loving new home, ready to help make some excellent meals.
