WJHS Choir FAQ
FAQ
Q: Do I need to have sung in choir before to join? What if I've never been in choir? Do I need to be a good singer?
A: You don't need any experience! We love to have both new and experienced singers in choir! This is a choir class, so we help any students improve on their singing, whether or not students think they have a spectacular solo voice or not!
Q: My creative arts period is 2nd and Choir is only 8th period, can I still join?
A: Yes! We would just need to switch your 2nd period and 8th period classes around.
Q: Can I take Choir if I am taking another required course at the same time that choir is offered? (Ex. German, AS)
A: Unfortunately there are a few required classes such as German and AS that may conflict with choir and therefore we would be unable to enroll you.
Q: Does choir ever conflict with Band or Orchestra?
A: Nope! There are no conflicts. We have many students in both an instrumental ensemble and choir.
Q: Do I ever have to sing a solo or by myself?
A: Nope! All solos are optional and auditioned for.
Q: Do I need to wear a mask while singing?
A: You can if you would like to, however there is no requirement to wear PPE.
Q: Are the performances required?
A: Yes, most performances are required! However, if you have other commitments, I always work with students to make sure they can do both!
Q: What kind of music do you sing?
A: All kinds of music! This past Fall we sung "Better Days" by Ant Clemons and Justin Timberlake and "Waving Through a Window" from Dear Evan Hansen, along with other songs of different genres! Sometimes I even let students vote on music so that we are trully doing the most fun songs.
Q: Do you have to know how to read music/singing techniques in order to sing in choir?
A: No matter if you are familiar with reading music or not, anyone can join choir! Throughout the course we improve our music reading abilities.
Q: Is choir fun?
A: Yes! Ask someone in choir! I guarantee they will ramble about how fun our program is!
Q: Is there homework or will I have to practice after school?
A: While I always encourage singing and practicing at home, we never specifically have homework or requirements on it.
Q: Are there student leadership opportunities!
A: We have multiple leadership opportunities including: "Assistant to the Regional Manager", "Journalist", "Photographer", and "Tech Wizard"
