Research Process:

Investigate

• Select issue or topic
• Gather a variety of resources
• Explore the resources, take notes, and keep track of resources for future bibliography
• Research BOTH sides of the issue
• Become an expert on your topic or issue

Plan

• Pick your argument side (take a position or stance)
• Return to research with a more critical eye
• Decide which evidence best supports your argument (evaluate and rank your evidence)
• Figure out how you will present your evidence in your essay in a logical way
• Plan for rebuttals to counterclaims

Create

• Craft a strong thesis
• Write your argumentative essay (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) with your audience in mind
• Create a bibliography

Evaluate

• Did I create an effective argument for my issue?
• What could I do differently next time?
