Google Classroom
Students will accept an email invitation to their Google Classrooms. Adult caregivers of students may request their own invitation to our Google Classroom.
Weekly Reading Letters
Every student in middle school has a weekly reading letter due each Friday unless it is canceled due to a long weekend or holiday. This letter is a staple of our class as it allows each student personalized feedback and the opportunity to practice writing skills, integrate several standards weekly, improve spelling, grammar, and writing skills; and think deeply about their self-selected reading.
A sample letter and a grading rubric are posted in the "Classwork" section of their Google Classroom. The grading rubric is posted there as well.
Vocabulary
Our middle school vocabulary program is vertically aligned so that students practice applying their growing knowledge of roots and affixes to decipher vocabulary. Other vocabulary words and academic vocabulary will be small parts of novel, story, and project units. Students will receive a study guide in class before their vocabulary tests (usually once/2 weeks) and an opportunity to study with a peer, teacher, or through whole class games. A Gimkit computer vocabulary game is also available for each list and students may use this at home.
Essays and Projects
Students receive rubrics for each essay and project when they are introduced so that each student has a checklist for requirements.
