Discussion posts and quizzes from assigned readings are worth 10% of your overall course grade.
Readings are assigned throughout the semester. It is necessary to complete these readings prior to class so we can focus on practicing the methods and procedures in class, rather than absorbing the rote content.
There is a Course Reading Packet available which includes many of the required readings, as well as some optional readings. Please be sure to retrieve your copy from the Packet Room. I will also be posting links to downloadable versions of the readings.
You are required to contribute a discussion post to the appropriately-named channel on our course Slack workspace, by the deadline set on the individual Reading Assignment. Their role is to get you engaged with and thinking about the material. They will be graded according to whether they provide evidence you understood and considered the material in responding. It should be clear from your discussion post that you studiously completed the reading.
Default Responses. Discussion posts should be a minimum of 140 words (~6 sentences), and should include your response to the reading, including: a question, dis/agreement, something surprising, a point of confusion, criticism, a connection to your personal experiences, etc. Your individual post should be made by the night before class, and (if specified) you should post at least one follow-up response to a peer's reflection by 11am the morning of class. Please keep up with the readings and follow the pace of the class (i.e., don't read/post more than one future reading)!
Specific Responses. Some readings may have specific prompts or additional instructions. Please read the instructions with each reading!
Below is the Table of Contents of readings available in your Course Reading Packet. It's possible that not all of these readings will be read in this course, but all of the included readings should provide greater depth of understanding the methods and concepts of HCI. Digital copies of these readings will also be provided.
