SUMMER Term

This term, Reception have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about farms and farm animals. Through a range of exciting, hands-on activities, the children explored life on a farm, discovering the different animals that live there and learning about the important jobs farmers do each day. 

A highlight of the term was our visit to the farm. The children loved seeing the animals up close, observing their behaviour and discussing the different types of animals that live on a farm. 

This term, Reception visited Green Street Library to begin the Summer Reading Challenge. The children borrowed books and are looking forward to reading them at home, collecting stickers and earning prizes as they progress through the challenge.

Reception had a wonderful experience role-playing a variety of different job roles together. The children reinforced their learning about the people in our community and the important ways they help us. A big thank you to the PTA and Ms Akhtar for organising such a special event and making it such a memorable experience for the children. 

During STEM Week, the children enjoyed exploring and learning through the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Working creatively and collaboratively, they designed and built a house for the caterpillar using a variety of fruits. They also used lego to construct models of the caterpillar’s favourite fruits, developing their problem solving, teamwork and engineering skills while bringing the story to life. 

In Maths, the children have been developing their number skills by practising counting, recognising and writing numbers to 20. They have used a range of practical resources and hands-on equipment to support their learning, helping them to build confidence and deepen their understanding of numbers. 

This half term, Reception has been learning about doubles in Maths. The children have enjoyed finding doubles both inside and outside the classroom, helping them to develop their mathematical understanding through hands-on learning and discussion. They have become increasingly confident in recognising and recalling doubles. 

This term, Reception have thoroughly enjoyed learning about a variety of minibeasts. The children explored different minibeast habitats and worked together to create bug hotels, developing their understanding of the natural world. They also learned about and compared the life cycles of different minibeasts, discovering how they grow and change over time. 

The children particularly enjoyed having real caterpillars and snails in the classroom. They carefully monitored the changes they observed and recorded their findings in their own diaries, developing their scientific enquiry skills.
