Our school council is a group of children who have been elected by their class. They act as representatives of their classmates in discussing school issues with the headteacher, governors, staff and PTA.
Representative hold monthly class meetings and report to the monthly whole school council. Each year a Chairperson and Deputy are chosen.
The school council decide which charities we support and provide ideas for fundraising. They have suggested and implemented ideas such as a playground reading area, selected equipment for playtime and made suggestions for the school menu during a tasting session.
Our ambassadors support and help when we have visitors to our school. They provide a welcome at various whole school events, answer questions and point visitors in the right direction.
They are chosen after an application process where they outline their suitability for the role. They learn lots of facts about our school so they can answer questions accurately and confidently.
Our prefects have specific responsibilities within the school. First and foremost they are excellent role models for all learners and members of the wider community. Specifically, they are part of a rota in which they support younger children in the dinner hall and organise sports and games in the playground.
They are often called upon to support whole school events such as Summer Fairs, Sports Days and Community Picnics.
Our Rights Respecting Ambassadors learn about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)
They work with a staff member to embed these values in daily school life and give children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens. They do this by making suggestions about how this can be achieved and contributing to weekly assemblies which explain each right.
Our Peer Mediators are a team of children who are trained to help other children resolve their conflicts peacefully.
Children apply to be Peer mediators and have interviews to assess their suitability. Peer mediators work as a team, understand feelings, listen to people. They work on creating win-win situations and are supported by trained members of staff.
In their role as Junior Librarians, the children aim to: Look after the Library and ensure it is tidy. Encourage others to treat the Library with respect. Encourage others to look after the books.
Assembly monitors prepare the hall for assembly each day. The role involves arranging seating, preparing the music, accessing the correct slide show and lighting the candle. They support the adult during assemblies with props and control the slideshow. At the end of assembly the monitors take turns to read the daily act of collective worship and reset the hall.
Reading Cafe Helpers prepare the dining hall for the reading cafe for each class in the school. Under the direction of the deputy headteacher, they lay the tables and present the books appropriate to the class. When the parents arrive, they offer tea, coffee, juice and biscuits, then make and serve the order. At the end they collect the books and cups and return them to the staff room kitchen
