Year 5/6 Mixed Football Tournament Report

The competition took place at Oasis Academy Wintringham on the 22nd September and consisted of 12 primary schools. The league format placed William Barcroft into a group with Signhills Primary, Humberston Cloverfields Primary, Enfield Primary, Welhome Primary and St Josephs Primary. In the other group were Stallingborough Primary, Elliston Primary, Springfield Primary, Healing Primary, Willows Primary and Pilgrim Primary.

First Game: William Barcroft 0 v 3 Signhills Primary

The boys suffered a defeat to a very strong Signhills, who scored 3 quick goals in the first three minutes. William Barcroft grew into the game and held their own. Despite the loss, the boys kept the faith and didn’t lose their heads. They showed true togetherness to pick themselves up.

Second Game: William Barcroft 2 v 0 St Joseph’s Primary

William Barcroft put in a fantastic performance to comfortably win 2-0. RJ was in form and scored two brilliant goals. RJ could’ve had a hat trick but his shot hit the post before the final whistle. This win gave William Barcroft a vital 3 points.

Third Game: William Barcroft 1 v 1 Enfield Primary

William Barcroft put in another great performance and should’ve walked away with a second victory. The match started off with Enfield taking the lead 1-0. The boys didn’t give up after that and quickly got on the attack with Logan passing through to RJ. With RJ through on goal, he calmly slotted it beyond the goalkeeper’s reach and levelled the scoring. Enfield responded instantly, hitting the post from range but William Barcroft defended and battled well. William Barcroft picked up a vital 2 points with a 1-1 draw.

Fourth Game: William Barcroft 1 v 1 Welholme Primary

William Barcroft played their fourth straight game without a break and the tired legs began to show. William Barcroft took the lead with a fantastic counter attack and RJ, yet again, was in on goal and scored another calmly slotted goal. Welholme responded and for most of the game, William Barcroft had their backs against the wall. Welhome scored to make it 1-1. They continued to dominate the possession but William Barcroft goalkeeper, GJ, kept the score level and William Barcroft gained another crucial 2 points.

Fifth Game: William Barcroft 0 v 2 Cloverfields Primary

William Barcroft were outplayed by a great side in Cloverfields Primary. Cloverfields dominated early but GJ made 2 crucial saves to keep the score 0-0. Around the 4 minute mark, Cloverfields Primary finally broke the deadlock and scored 2 brilliant goals. William Barcroft had a chance which fell to RJ but the goalkeeper made a good save.

William Barcroft did amazingly well and finished 3rd in their group, earning them a place in the play-off rounds to battle for 5th place. William Barcroft were due to play against Pilgrims Primary from the other group, who also finished 3rd .

Play-Off Game: William Barcroft 0 v 1 Pilgrims Primary

A very close game and William Barcroft were unlucky to lose this game. William Barcroft started the better team and RJ had a brilliant shot denied superbly by the goalkeeper. GC then made a fantastic run down the left hand side and his shot hit the post. The Pilgrims striker pounced on a mistake by our defender and slotted his shot beyond GJ, which was against the run of play and harsh on our boys. They showed true togetherness again to pick their team mate up and continue to dominate the game. The game ended 1-0 to Pilgrims, meaning William Barcroft finished in 6th place.

All the boys in this team can be extremely proud of themselves. In addition to their amazing performances, they won the most respectful team award, as chosen by officials, which meant they earned medals and didn’t leave empty-handed. The boys behaved faultlessly and represented William Barcroft amazingly. A massive thank you to the parents, who attended the tournament, your support gave the boys a day they will never forget! This will not be the last time this team play as we are hopeful of setting up friendly fixtures against local schools. Well done boys, you have made me a very proud teacher and it was a privilege to have been your manager and enjoy the tournament with you!

Literacy

Last week, we welcomed celebrated children's author Luke Temple into school - how exciting! We all had a fantastic time learning about his new book, Zombie Cows From Outer Space. He shared fascinating snippets from his short stories and other books in his spooky series including The Ghost Lord Returns and Ghost Post! Luke Temple returned back into school the following day with a selection of books on sale. They were so incredibly fantastic that 'Zombie Cows' had sold out within the first half an hour! The books were even signed and dedicated to the children which felt extra special! He's inspired many of our children to write their own spooky stories and design their own villains!

Emotional wellbeing is often a complex issue. Trying to work out what’s going on or why things are the way they are can often be very difficult for any parent/carer.

Children and young people can have lots of different emotional health and wellbeing issues ranging from low mood, anxiety, unhealthy eating patterns or self-harming behaviour. Thankfully Compass Go and other supporting agencies can help, visit there website here:

E-Safety

Ollee is a digital friend for ages 8-11 – created by Parent Zone and funded by BBC Children in Need.

It helps children explore feelings around school, family, friends, the world and much, much more.

Ollee asks how you’re feeling and offers ideas about what to do. If you're not sure, Ollee will help you figure it out.

Children and parents can both create and connect Ollee accounts – to share advice together.

The Department of Education have invited councils across the UK to bid for funding for a Special, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs school to be built in their area. We’re writing to you to find out your views on proposals for a new school to be built nearby. The proposed school would be to cater for up to 150 students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Tuesday 27th September from 10am to 1pm

There will be local authority officers from both the special educational needs team and those involved in the application process to help answer any queries and listen to your views.
