The Willamalane Park and Recreation District’s Employee of the Month (EOM) Program celebrates
employees who consistently demonstrate a positive, supportive, and collaborative attitude. This
program honors staff who go above and beyond their usual duties, embodying Willamalane’s Mission,
Vision, and RECS Values. By recognizing these outstanding contributions, the EOM program not only
appreciates individual achievements but also enhances employee engagement and fosters a positive
work environment.

Nomination Criteria
Employees should be nominated based on the following criteria:
● Embodies Willamalane’s guiding principles in their work.
● Makes contributions to a positive work environment beyond their usual employment expectations.
● Demonstrate at least one of the following characteristics:
○ Community Impact: Positively impacted the community and contributes to creating a healthy, active community
where everyone belongs.
○ Impact on Co-workers: Inspires, supports, or uplifts fellow employees.
○ Inclusiveness: Advances equity, access, and inclusion within programs, services, or activities.
○ Innovation and Improvement: Implements a new or sustainable practices that enhance a program, facility, or service, or ensures that an activity,
program, or service is inclusive, equitable, and accessible to all.
○ Leadership and Teamwork: Demonstrates strong teamwork or leadership qualities.
○ Safety & Wellbeing: (includes workplace, environmental, emotional, physical, and psychological safety and well-being) – Upholds safety standards and
positively affects the well-being of co-workers or community members.
Nominee Eligibility
● Nominees must have worked at Willamalane for at least one (1) year and must not be on probationary status at the time of nomination.
● Employees may receive EOM recognition more than once; however, there must be a minimum of one (1) year between awards.
● Nominees must be “in good standing,” confirmed by their department director or the HR Director.
Review & Selection
Nominations are evaluated by the Employee of the Month Selection Committee based on how well they meet the EOM criteria, with a focus on the nominee’s:
- Contribution to a positive work environment
- Actions that exceed job expectations
- Alignment with Willamalane’s guiding principles
The committee also considers the nominee’s impact on the community and colleagues, commitment to inclusiveness, innovation, leadership, and safety.
The Employee of the Month Selection Committee plays a vital role in the success and integrity of the EOM Program. This group is made up of employees from a wide range of departments, roles, and employment statuses - including full-time, part-time, seasonal, and temporary staff. Responsibilities include:
- Reviewing nominations each month and evaluating them against the established Nomination Criteria
- Participating in monthly committee meetings
- Contributing to a fair, inclusive, and peer-led selection process
- Helping to notify and celebrate selected honorees
- Providing feedback to improve the EOM program and support its ongoing success
Committee members serve a one-year term from September 1 to August 31, with a maximum of two consecutive terms. Recruitment occurs annually in August, and all staff are welcome to express interest.
Participation in the committee offers staff a meaningful way to connect with peers, recognize outstanding contributions across the district, and support a positive workplace culture.
