(1) Say the word aloud. This will help with comprehension.
(2) When you do not know the exact meaning of a word, use the +, -, or neutral “feel” of the word to help eliminate answers.
(3) Cross off ones that aren't matching the sign or the word.
(4) If two answers are VERY similar, they are NOT the answer.
(5) Be careful of the "matchy matchy" answer.
(6) Part of speech are always the same in the problem.
(7) Never cross off an answer just because you don't know what it means.
(8) If you don't know the meaning of 1 of the answers, it doesn't matter at all (if you generally know the meaning of the original word).
Hard work on building vocabulary as well as roots and prefixes can pay off.
You need know the part of speech because it will help you figure out the meaning of the word.
KEY TIP: All words in one problem will be the same part of speech.
