is native to much of eastern Canada and the northeastern United States. Black Ash is a medium-sized deciduous tree closely related to Green Ash. Unfortunately, the Black Ash population in Minnesota is at risk due to the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). EAB is an invasive forest insect from Asia that’s responsible for the loss of ash trees all over the eastern half of the United States as well as southeastern Canada. EAB was discovered in Saint Paul in 2009 and has moved progressively north, it was found in Duluth in 2016.

is also known as Beebalm. It is a showy perrenial with clusters of pink, white and lavender flowers. The leaves are very aromatic and can be used to make mint tea. In the past, oil extracted from the leaves was used to treat respiratory ailments.
