Backyard Bird ID

Objectives

  1. Develop and practice the skills of birding

  2. Identify and describe birds of Minnesota

  3. Discover other birding and naturalist resources to use in your community

Materials

Not much is needed! Although it’s completely optional, it could be advantageous to use binoculars for sightings and a notebook for field observations.

Location

Birding can be done anywhere! Backyards work well but spotting can also be done through a window or on a neighborhood walk.

Birds are most active and loud in the morning - perfect time for sightings!

Activity best suited for grades 6-12.
