A short newsletter a week early as there is lots coming up in the next couple of weeks, with World book day and mothering Sunday!
World Book Day is on Thursday 5th March. On this day we encourage all children to bring in their favourite book to share in their class. Children can choose to wear their pyjamas on this day (to highlight the importance of bedtime stories) or to dress as a character from the book they have brought in.
Please don’t feel pressure to buy commercial costumes or go to great lengths to make costumes that will be uncomfortable for children to wear. Encourage your child to look carefully at the clothing worn by the character (or that they imagine they would wear) and maybe take a look in charity shops for some bargains!
Here is the information sent out earlier in the week from Mrs Graham
We will be celebrating World Book Day next week ( week beginning 2.3.25) with a series of activities. These are listed below.
Monday / Tuesday - Please donate any unwanted children books into the school office to be added to our school book swap and sale.
Wednesday / Thursday / Friday - School council will be hosting a book swap and sale on the school playground from 8.35 - 9.00 am over the three days.
Each child will be given a ‘Wilden Book Token’ to swap at this sale. Parents will also be able to make small donations to purchase books.
Thursday 5th March - WORLD BOOK DAY
Children can come dressed as their favourite book character or in comfy pyjamas. If your child does not wish to get dressed up they can just come in their normal school uniform.
We are asking children to bring a book from home to share with a younger child who is their reading buddy. This could be a book they like and can explain it to another child or a picture book they could read to another child (please name these so they don’t get mixed up with school books).
Friday - Wyre Forest Books will be in school on Friday afternoon so all children can spend their ‘National World Book Day Voucher’ and exchange it for a book to keep.
We look forward to a wonderful week to promote the love of reading!
Please use this link to purchase gifts for our PTA Mothers' day event.
All orders must be completed by the end of day on Wednesday 11th March.
On Friday 13th March we will have a Mother's Day service at 9am Reception and KS1 and then 2.30pm for KS2. All Mums are invited to the service. If Mums can't attend then anyone else is very welcome to attend to represent them.
On Sunday 15th at 10am there will be a family service led by Phil Salah. We are really hoping that our wonderful Easter choir will all be able to sing at this service.
Today some of our year 5 girls shared a presentation with the school about our Spring term photography competition. There is plenty of time as the closing date is the end of the Spring term (before Easter). But they are asking children to enter photos they have taken under the following categories;
Funny Spring photos
Animal photos
Nature/flower photos
Fun with the family photos
We have reminded children that they are the ones that need to take the photos so we wouldn't be expecting to see them in the photo!
Entries should be emailed to office@wil.saet.co.uk
The Samuel Manninge hardship grants are available to anyone resident in the ancient parish of Hartlebury (that covers Wilden and parts of Stourport).
We would welcome an application from anyone residing in that geographical area if they are in need of funds. On average the grants are between £75 and £250.
Please do email them directly if you need support, or if you would like us to make contact we are happy to help.
We continue to need to remind parents to make safe choices around their parking.
This week we have had an email from a member of the public who drives down Wilden Lane daily and is seeing the same cars parked unsafely and illegally. She has reported these to Operation Snap and I would advise all parents to do the same.
The subtle bend that our school sits on makes cross the road very dangerous if parents have parked on the zigzag lines. Please don't endanger the lives of our children.
Please could we also remind parents that they should not be parking in the staff carpark even if collecting from WASPs. This is a small parking area and often staff need to be able to get out at different times of the day.
