Cybersecurity Certifications:

Friend or Foe?

In the broad field of cybersecurity, there is no shortage of advice on how to break in or advance in the field. One decision factor that most people face is what certifications to get and how difficult they are anyway. Who can take the exams and how much effort will it take? Will it be worth it? Our speakers, Jen Bate and Jennifer Cheung, with recent, multiple certifications, will discuss how they chose which certifications to focus on, how they studied, how they survived and thrived....and the overall challenge of earning respected certifications in a fast paced, male-dominated field.

Planning her future:

2021 Wish list social

Whether you are a student, new in the field, a career changer, mid-level professional, industry leader or an advocate  and ally for women in cybersecurity, your voice matters as this meeting will help shape the events, programs, and priorities for WiCyS San Diego in 2021.

Festive attire and friendly atmosphere are strongly encouraged. Towards the end of the event, everyone will vote for the guest with the most festive and creative Zoom room.  The guest with the most votes will receive this year's prize!

Come on early at 5:45 pm for early bird networking!

Launching her future

We had a fantastic launching event. Attendees had a chance to meet with the leadership team, became acquainted with our WiCyS San Diego Affiliate’s mission, and networked with like-minded cybersecurity professionals. Our guest speaker Sandra Wheatley Smerdon, Senior Vice President of Fortinet, shared her experience in the cybersecurity field and her career path to the executive position in the company. “There are so many wonderful opportunities in the cybersecurity field” as she stated and encouraged people who were trying to break into the field to take advantage of such abundance opportunities.
