Concerning optional assignments:

• Recommended assignments can be found by clicking on the upcoming test date. Note that these are OPTIONAL. Students may do as much or as little of the homework as they wish. The following are a few pointers to help you manage this new freedom and responsibility:
  • When you take the time to do a question, make sure you check the answers. If it is not correct, you may ask in class or bring it to extra help (Mon, Wed or Fri at lunch).
  • There will be formative pop quizzes given in class. These count for 0% of your mark but they serve several purposes. The results go on the portal and we go over the quizzes in class so that the students, parents and teacher can see the progress of the learning and learn from their mistakes. If a student is performing poorly on the quizzes it gives them ample time to do more of the homework, or seek help before any upcoming term tests.
  • Students who perform poorly on multiple quizzes should expect a phone call to their parents. This is a warning sign that the student is in danger of failing the upcoming test and needs to make a plan of action.
