Autumn 2025
Welcome to the very first issue of Wickersley School and Sports College’s SEND Newsletter. We’re excited to share the fantastic work happening across our school to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Each term, this newsletter will highlight the inclusive activities, achievements and initiatives taking place, celebrating our students’ successes, showcasing the support available and keeping families informed about how we continue to create a learning environment where every young person can thrive.

This term, we successfully hosted our first SEND Coffee Morning of the year, providing an opportunity for parents and carers to meet the team, ask questions, and share feedback.
We have also continued our regular partnership work with external professionals, including the Specialist Inclusion Team, Educational Psychologists, and Speech and Language Therapists (SaLT). These ongoing meetings ensure we are able to provide informed, up-to-date support and intervention for our students with additional needs.
Keep an eye out on our social media channels to see when the next SEND Coffee Morning date!
Our Wellbeing Ambassadors recently received some lovely postcards from the residents at Silverwood Care Home. The children took great care in writing thoughtful replies to each resident!
These heartfelt exchanges have now been displayed within the care home, bringing joy to the residents and showing the impact that small acts of kindness can have. This initiative is a wonderful example of how our students live out the values of empathy and community spirit. Well done to all of our Ambassadors for representing our school so brilliantly!
As part of Anti-Bullying Week 2025: Power for Good, our Wellbeing Ambassadors, in collaboration with With Me In Mind, led a range of fun and meaningful activities to promote kindness and positive relationships across school.
Students took part in Kindness Bingo, completed small acts of kindness throughout the week and shared their ideas about what made a good friend. These thoughtful discussions helped everyone reflect on the importance of respect, empathy and standing up for others.
One of the week’s highlights was a fun challenge where students guessed which celebrity the picture cards represented, which sparked lots of laughter and conversation.
On Mondays after school, we run a Craft Club that is attended by students from all year groups. The club provides a relaxed and friendly space where pupils can unwind, get creative and try out a variety of fun activities. Each session focuses on a different craft, from seasonal projects and paper crafts to painting, jewellery making and more. Students really enjoy experimenting with new materials and sharing their ideas with one another, and the club has become a great place for building confidence, friendships and teamwork skills.
We would like to thank Miss Parkin for running the club and planning the activities each week. Her enthusiasm and creativity ensure that every session is engaging, well organised and enjoyable for all who take part.
On the 5th December, Miss Emery and one of Wickersley’s brilliant Wellbeing Ambassadors, helped on front-of-house duties for the final night of Wickersley’s panto, Beauty & the Beast. It was a fantastic evening, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the show!
