February 2026
Welcome to the February edition of the WPT Newsletter!
As the year moves on, there’s been lots going on across the Trust. In this edition, we’re sharing just some of the highlights from our schools and provisions, showing the great things our students and staff have been up to.
You’ll also find the latest Trust news and updates, giving a snapshot of the fantastic work happening right across WPT. We hope you enjoy catching up with what’s been happening in our Trust community.
Marking Children's Mental Health Week with The Mercians
WPT marked Children’s Mental Health Week with a series of powerful live performances from rising Leicester indie rock band, The Mercians - bringing music and important conversation to students across our secondary schools.
The sessions combined live music with important messages around mental health and wellbeing. Alongside their performances, band members spoke openly about the challenges they have faced and how they have worked to overcome them, encouraging students to talk openly, seek support and look out for one another.
Celebrating Culture at Clifton
On the last Friday in January, Clifton welcomed hundreds of students, staff and families to celebrate Culture Day, recognising the wide range of cultures represented across our school community.
First introduced in 2023, our Cultural Exchange events have quickly become a much-loved part of the school calendar. The day encourages everyone to wear heritage dress, share food, and celebrate the stories and traditions connected to their cultures and countries of family origin.
Y6 Athletics Event
On the 4th February, a team of Y6 pupils took part in the Rotherham School Games Sports Hall Athletics event. It was a fantastic competition, with everyone showing great effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the day.
There were some excellent individual performances, and we look forward to finding out the final results soon. Well done to all involved!
Y9/10 Netball Success
In January, a combined Year 9 and Year 10 netball team took on Maltby and put in an excellent performance, securing an amazing 21-6 victory. The team built a strong lead early on and maintained their momentum throughout the match.
Challenging Hate – A Rotherham United Workshop
Year 6 were lucky to visit RUFC and take part in workshops on knife crime, extremism, radicalisation, and hate crime.
We had a great day taking part in drama and interactive workshops that made us really think about our attitudes, personal opinions and the way we behave towards others.
Numbers Day 2026
On Friday 6th February, pupils across Brinsworth Whitehill took part in NSPCC Number Day and rocked out for NSPCC Rocks. There was some fantastic maths on display, with pupils taking part in fun and challenging activities. The costumes were brilliant, creativity was in full swing, and there were lots of smiles all around. Thank you to everyone for your support, and a big well done to all the pupils who joined in and made the day so memorable!
Local Councillors Visit TGA to Recognise Remarkable Improvement
In January, we welcomed West Lindsey District Councillors to TGA for a tour of our school and an opportunity to see first-hand the significant progress we have made. This follows our best-ever exam results last year, which placed us among the top 20 most improved schools nationally.
During the visit, our Headteacher, Mrs Skelton, Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Syrichas and some of our students proudly showcased the improvements across teaching, learning and outcomes.
The tour also included a visit to our new SEND hub, Phase, which offers 10 places for children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), as well as two to three places for TGA students who need that extra bit of support.
Kindness and Community in EYFS
This term, our EYFS superstars have been busy spreading cheer across the school. As part of our focus on kindness and community, the children delivered biscuits to our neighbouring classes.
Seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces was the best reward of all. It’s never too early to learn that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Well done, EYFS!
Y7 Girls Cup Success
Our Year 7 girls made the 200-mile round trip to Telford to face Madeley Academy in the last 16 of the English Schools Cup last week. They won 5-0 and are through to the quarter-finals of the English Schools FA Cup.
Primary Music
Here are some of the things that have been happening in Primary Music across the Trust:
KS1 have been exploring the concept of rhythm through our minibeast and Space topics, delving into the Planets by Gustav Holstein.
LKS2 have been learning all about pentatonic scales and how music is used to celebrate Chinese New Year. In addition to this, some classes have been learning about Rock and Roll Music, even showing off their dance skills with the Hand Jive.
As well as our instrumental opportunities, UKS2 have been learning about musicals and have been learning how to sing in 2 parts. Y6 pupils have also started to write their own Leaver’s Song, reflecting on their time in WPT schools.
Number Day 2026
Aston Lodge celebrated Number Day with lots of exciting maths-based activities taking place across the school. It was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to see how maths links to everyday life and to enjoy learning in a fun, practical way. There were also a number of ‘best dressed’ awards given out for the best number-themed outfits, which added to the celebrations and creativity across the school.
Learning from the Past - A Visit from an Ex-Miner
In early February, Year 6 enjoyed a fascinating talk from ex-miner, Mr Adrian Hughes, s part of their Miners’ Strike learning.
They discovered what mining was like in the past and during the strike, and prepared thoughtful questions to interview Mr Hughes about his experiences. A fantastic opportunity to bring history to life!
Y10/11 Careers Sessions
It has been a really busy couple of weeks for our careers provision!
Some of our Year 10 students attended taster sessions at Dearne Valley College to get a feel for life on campus and to try out new skills.
We also hosted our annual mock interviews for Year 11 students, where local employers visited RCS to give pupils a realistic experience of what to expect from future interviews, both in and out of education.
STUDENT COUNCIL
Representatives from the School Councils across all of our Trust schools came together on Thursday 12th February for another inspiring Trust Council event. On this occasion, students met with the Trust’s HR Subcommittee - made up of Directors and Senior Leaders - to focus on an issue that matters deeply to us all: student wellbeing.
The session provided a valuable opportunity for students to share their views on what the Trust is doing well to support wellbeing, as well as their ideas for the future. Every student had the chance to speak directly with Directors and Senior Leaders, ensuring their voices were heard and valued.
We are incredibly proud of all the students involved. They represented their schools brilliantly, spoke with confidence and thoughtfulness, and contributed to some brilliant discussions.
A big thank you to the students, staff, and Trust leaders who made the event such a success.
Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for the full story - coming soon!
Playground Leaders
We are so proud of our Playground Leaders! They led a fantastic assembly all about sports and how to use playground equipment safely and fairly.
The girls worked incredibly hard to create and deliver their own presentation, sharing thoughtful ideas and setting a brilliant example for the rest of the school.
Y12 Politics Rotherham Town Hall Trip
On Monday 2nd February, Year 12 Politics students visited Rotherham Town Hall to meet the Mayor, Rukhsana Ismail.
During the visit, students took part in a Q&A session, asking thoughtful and challenging questions about local democracy, the demands of the role, and the Mayor’s extensive charity work and personal educational journey.
What a busy term it’s been!
On behalf of Wickersley Partnership Trust, have a happy and restful half term!
