Welcome to the latest edition of the WPT Newsletter.
As we approach the final stretch of the academic year, it's clear that this half term has been one of the busiest yet across our Trust. With exam season now fully underway, many of our students are rising to the challenge of SATs, GCSEs and A Levels.
In the latest edition of the WPT Newsletter, we share just a few of the many highlights from across our Trust and our schools - from student achievements to enrichment activities to community events.
Take a look!
We are extremely proud that Josh Bartle, Assistant Headteacher at Clifton Community School, has been shortlisted as a Finalist in the ‘Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School’ category in The Pearson National Teaching Awards 2025.
Josh has worked across multiple secondary schools within Wickersley Partnership Trust and it’s been an honour to nurture his growth as a teacher and Senior Leader over the last few years. This nomination and shortlisting is testament to the passion and dedication that he puts into his roles every day to support the students, his colleagues and the Trust.
We will be celebrating Mr Bartle and all of our colleagues on National Thank A Teacher Day on 18th June, when the results will be announced!
Good luck, Josh!
Our annual ski trip was another huge success! A group of staff and students made their way to Italy to put their skiing skills to the test - all of them made fantastic progress and had a wonderful time.
Take a look at our website to see what we got up to each day.
Keep an eye out for information about the 2026 trip!
On Thursday 17th April, RCS held the second Leadership Lunch of the year. This complimentary lunch was to reward the hard work and dedication from some of our students over the last term.
For each year group, the top 10 students with the most CFPs and no CFCs were invited to attend the lunch, along with a friend of their choosing. Some of the students invited had amassed over 100 CFPs and no CFCs over the course of the last term, which is an amazing achievement and shows that these students continue to dream big and have high expectations of themselves.
Last month, RCS student, Lacey, took part in a Gymnastics Competition. She received a silver medal for her vault routine, and was also rewarded a certificate for her stuck landing. She has progressed so much in skill and confidence, and should be extremely proud of herself.
Well done, Lacey!
Last week, Foundation Stage had an ‘egg’stra special time, taking part in lots of fantastic Easter activities. They had a visit from the Easter Bunny, who left the children clues to help them find chocolate eggs. They also took part in many ‘egg’cellent Easter crafts.
Amazing work, well done FS!
On Thursday 8th May, children across Thrybergh Primary took part in a History lesson around VE Day, and learnt why we celebrate this. Everyone came to school in some lovely red, white, and blue outfits and face paint for the occasion. They also attended a whole school assembly, where they all sang some 1940s wartime songs. The children were super engaged, and learnt so much.
Well done!
In Geography this term, Y2 have been learning about coastlines and the different features that can be found there. They have focused on the Yorkshire seaside town, Scarborough, and this week they identified human and physical features of the resort. Everyone has worked together brilliantly, and learnt so much.
Well done, Y2!
Student Council Members Meet With WPT Board of Directors
On Monday 1st May 2025, representatives from each of our secondary schools were invited to the WPT Head Office in Rotherham to meet our Board of Directors as part of their most recent Board meeting. The students, all members of their respective Student Councils, were treated to a buffet lunch before meeting with Directors in what was a first-of-its-kind meeting between student and Trust leadership.
The event, a fact-finding endeavour for the Directors, covered topics including the impact Student Councils have on their schools, how student leaders listen to their peers and communicate key issues to senior leaders, and whether there is anything more our Trust can do to positively impact the lives of the young people in our care.
Helen O’Brien, CEO, said: “The students were exceptional. They spoke with confidence, maturity, and clarity, and their contributions reflected a deep sense of responsibility and pride in their schools. It was clear they had thought deeply about the issues they wanted to raise—not just on behalf of their own school community, but across the wider Trust.”
Steve Calvert, Chair of the Board of Directors, said: “The students have certainly given the Board significant matters to consider. It’s truly reassuring to know we have individuals who are not only capable of articulating their perspectives, but also deeply committed to representing the interests of their fellow students.”
The students were a credit to their schools and our Trust. We are already reflecting on the conversations that took place and planning the next meeting.
On Sunday 27th April, TGA’s Mr Shaw took on the London Marathon in aid of pancreatic cancer. He completed the course in a fantastic 4 hours 56 minutes.
Well done Mr Shaw, we are so proud of you!
Recently TGA student, Mollie, took part in the Cheerleading World Championships! She placed 4th and 6th in her dance teams, and became a Gold Medal World Champion in her cheer team. We couldn’t be more proud, what an incredible achievement.
Well done, Mollie!
During the Easter Holidays, TGA students took part in the Ski Trip. Their skills progressed immensely well throughout the trip, leading to their final day of taking part in the Slalom Race. Everyone had such a fantastic time, and should be extremely proud of themselves for all the practice and hard work they put in.
Well done!
On Friday 25th April, the RAF STEM ambassadors visited The Gainsborough Academy, including special guests from the Red Arrows to deliver an inspirational talk about potential careers in the RAF. Students were able to hear about the career paths of a number of RAF personnel, and take part in a range of hands on interactive activities.
TGA would like to say a huge thank you to those who came and talked to our students, as well as the Gainsborough Aspiration Project and West Lindsey Council for making the event possible!
We've continued with our Proud to be TGA initiative this half term. We want our students to be Proud of the work they accomplish and of the school they belong to. Our Proud Podium, Proud phone calls home, and Proud Plenaries are just some of the ways we have been accomplishing this.
Proud to be TGA.
The Y6 children had a fabulous time at the National Coal Mining Museum. They experienced an underground mine tour, and learnt what life was like for families working in the mine during the Victorian era. Finally, the National Coal Mining Museum have some ponies, which the children were lucky enough to meet.
Everyone concluded that it is far better to be educated in a school, than to be a Victorian child working in the mines! Overall, throughout the day, there were lots of interactive learning and lots of memorable experiences.
FS1 have been exploring the topic of Space! The children had lots of fun creating their space pictures, using potatoes to print various planets. They also decorated a biscuit to represent outer space, adding some edible stars and moon dust for a sparkly effect.
As well as this, the children practiced the nursery rhyme ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ using Makaton signs, then discussed how they would travel to the moon and what they would take with them. Everyone worked super hard this week, learning new facts about the solar system, and discussing how to care for our Earth.
Amazing work, well done FS1!
Children from Aston Lodge have recently taken part in a First Aid Schools session. They all absolutely loved taking part in this, learning so much along the way. The children went through a recap of all the essential first aid skills, then learnt all about CPR and even got the opportunity to use a defibrillator.
Everyone listened brilliantly, and came away from the session with a knowledge on how to keep others safe. Well done!
Over the holidays, we held our fifth WPT Easter Competition, which was open to all students across Wickersley Partnership Trust.
To enter the competition, our students had to get creative and send us an Easter themed piece of artwork, a selfie, a photo, or a design.
As always, we had some fantastic entries, and our judges had an extremely hard job of choosing the top 5!
Congratulations to:
Pixie Rae - Thrybergh Primary School
Bella - Monkwood Primary School
Arminas - Rawmarsh Sandhill Primary School
Ellen - Wickersley School & Sports College
Molly - The Gainsborough Academy
All of the winners received a well-deserved certificate and an Easter egg!
Congratulations to the winners, and a huge thank you to all of our students and their families who took part in the competition.

Recently, Foundation took part in a First Aid Schools session. They talked about how they can look after each other, and what do to if their friends fall over. The children then learnt how to wrap bandages on their friends.
Fantastic work, well done!
The children at Foljambe had a fantastic time at Easter, and were very ‘hoppy’ that the Easter Bunny came to visit! Everyone gave him a great big hug, and he even brought chocolate and sweets for them. The children took part in an Easter egg hunt around the school, as well as their own egg rolling competition.
Great work, Foljambe!
FS2 went on a trip to Cannon Hall Farm this term! They got to see lots of farm animals and learn all about them. The children were especially delighted to see the piglets that had been born the very morning of their visit – they were small and very noisy! The children also watched the ferret races and cheered them on. FS2 were all very tired by the end of their busy day at the farm.
Well done, everyone!
FS2 took part in the annual Easter Bonnet Parade! Everyone brought in some wonderful creations, that they were excited to show off. They even went around school, so all the other children could see what they made.
Fantastic work, well done!
This half term, Y4 have been working on recognising coins and notes in their money system. They matched the coins to their value, then worked out which coins they would need to make specific totals. The children then challenged themselves to find different ways to make the same total, using different coins.
On Thursday 8th May, children at Brinsworth Whitehill had a wonderful day learning about the significance of VE Day. They analysed a range of sources in their History lessons, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the day.
In KS1, the children even made some beautiful VE Day flag buntings for the geriatric wards at the Northern General Hospital. There were some lovely comments from patients, staff and relatives that visited, and they even had an important visitor, Rupert the therapy dog, that came in and seemed to enjoy looking at the bunting.
After this, had their own celebration, enjoying a picnic in the sunshine. Well done, everyone!
On Thursday 15th May, the WPT Young Musician 2025 final was held, in which finalists from across our Trust schools competed in categories by performing to a panel of external adjudicators. With two shows featuring some of our primary and secondary singers and instrumentalists, it was an amazing display of the outstanding talent we have across WPT.
The winners were:
Primary Beginner – Ilana (Y6, Aston Hall Primary School)
Primary Intermediate – Michalina (Y6, Aston Hall Primary School)

Thursday 8th May marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and to commemorate the occasion, staff and students across Wickersley Partnership Trust (WPT) took part in a range of activities including:
Dressing in red, white or blue
Singing songs from the 1940s
Learning about VE Day in History lessons
Visiting a care home to hear first-hand stories about the War
Making their own Union Jack flags
Thrybergh Academy even welcomed Y5 students from local primary schools to join them in the celebrations, and held a street party-themed lunch and outdoor games.
Students across our Trust were really engaged throughout the day, and had a fantastic time learning more about the history of the United Kingdom, and how Britain rejoiced and celebrated the end of conflict in Europe by putting aside differences and coming together as a community.
Thank you to those who organised the event!
On Friday 16th May, Rawmarsh Community School exploded with energy and colour as it hosted the annual Rotherham School Games Colour Run in support of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, a wonderful local organisation that offer support to children with life-shortening illnesses and their families. The vibrant event formed part of the borough-wide Children’s Capital of Culture 2025 celebrations, shining a light on youth voice, creativity, and community action.
The morning session saw an energetic wave of KS2 runners taking to the course, many of which were Y6 students who had just finished their SATs, so spirits were high!
The afternoon brought Y9 girls from secondary schools across Rotherham together, who embraced the occassion and made the most of the leftover paint!
A big thank you goes to all the organisations who came together to help make such a memorable day for all: Rawmarsh Community School, School Games, CCoC, Places Leisure, Yorkshire Sport Foundation, and of course Bluebell Wood, as well as the 27 primary and secondary schools that took part! Stay tuned to find out the final total raised.
On Friday 25th April, Y13 students played against staff members in a friendly football match. It was a hard fought 0-0 draw, eventually dominated by Y13 who then went on to win on penalties. After three losses in the last two years, the students arrived very fired up and hungry for the win.
Great work!
On Friday 9th May, Wickersley held the final SEND Coffee Morning of the academic year. We were delighted to welcome a number of parents, carers, and external agencies who came together to share support, advice, and resources for families of children with special educational needs and disabilities.
The event provided a relaxed and welcoming space for open conversation, and meaningful connection.
Thank you to all the families and professionals who joined us – your involvement is what makes these sessions so impactful.
Earlier this year, Y10 Separate Physics and Y12 A-Level Physics students took part in the experimental project from the British Physics Olympiad.
The project involved investigating how a basketball transferred energy to a tennis ball during a collision. This aimed to model how spacecrafts are able to travel much faster by completing a gravitational assist maneuver, as they ‘slingshot’ from planets in the Solar System.
We are incredibly proud of their hard work and on Tuesday morning, they were invited alongside a selection of other students, to a breakfast celebration with Mr Hardcastle and Mr Frith to recognise how outstanding an achievement it was.
Did you attend one of our Trust schools?
Can you help us inspire the next generation by sharing your post-secondary school experience story?
No matter the route you took after school, or how long it is since you left , we’d love to hear from you.
As part of our Careers Entitlement, we want to feed our students with as much information as we can so that they leave their schools and Wickersley Partnership Trust able and qualified to play their full part in the world.
And who’s better to help us raise aspirations than those who have been in their shoes?

To celebrate Y6 completing their SATs, they had a well deserved Pizza Party lunch to recognise all of their hard work and effort over the last few months leading up to their week of SATs. They all put in a fantastic amount of effort and represented the Ashwood Way throughout.
Well done, Y6!
During Mental Health Awareness Week, Ashwood’s Mental Health Ambassadors met with Gemma from With Me in Mind to discuss their roles, and how they can support the mental health and wellbeing of the school community. They came up with some amazing ideas, and held lots of different activities on the playground to promote this, such as dancing, mindfulness colouring, team work, and sports.
Fantastic work, well done!
This half term, we have celebrated lots of achievements! Firstly, we awarded a certificate to all of the children in school who show the Ashwood Way through their citizenship skills, social and emotional skills through their PSHE lessons, and developed empathy skills toward others.
We also celebrated the children who have taken part in the WPT School Report. Eve, Florence, Aaliyah, and Doris all received a letter from the WPT CEO, and a certificate for their excellent team work skills on this project.
Recently, the Y3 Super Squirrels have been learning about Climate Change, and what impact humans have on the environment. They read the story ‘Dear Greenpeace’ and then wrote letters to them. The children thanked them for their work, and asked them some questions about what they do. Greenpeace sent the children an amazing letter back, that answered their questions, and even included some stickers! Everyone was very excited to receive the reply.
Well done, Y3!
At Easter, the children at Sandhill were lucky enough to receive a visit from the Easter Bunny, who helped award the prizes for our Easter Bonnet and Decorated Egg competitions. The children loved having such a special visitor in school, and everyone entered some wonderful creations, showing off their amazing talents.
Well done!
This term, our After School and Breakfast Club Fine Motor Skills groups have been producing some wonderful artwork. They took part in an Earth themed project for World Earth Day, as well as creating brightly coloured vases and flowers on paper. This is a really fun way for our children to improve their essential fine motor skills.
Great work, well done!
Before the Easter holidays, students from across Wickersley Partnership Trust took part in the WPT School Report 2025.
The WPT School Report is all about giving students from across our 13 schools the chance to use their student voice to create meaningful media – in the form of a newsletter, a podcast or a video – on topics that matter the most to them. It also aims to develop a range of skills including: team work, research, communication and interviewing.
The project was launched by the Media Team in 2024 for the Trust’s 10th anniversary and because of its success, it’s something that has become an annual event!

Y6 absolutely smashed SATs week and blew everyone away with their hard work, fantastic attitude, and resilience. Everyone at Aston Hall is super proud of you all! Following their last test, Year 6 celebrated in style with Domino’s pizza for lunch, and then all enjoyed the bonus of receiving their leavers’ hoodies.
Well done, Y6!
Aston Hall have recently been lucky enough to take part in a First Aid Schools workshop. The children were taught how to help someone if they have had a fall, and when they would need to call 999. Some children also learnt how to apply the DR ABC approach when assisting someone who is injured or unwell. They were also taught how to assess breathing, perform CPR effectively, and how to use the defibrillator.
Everyone listened carefully throughout and asked a range of thoughtful questions, well done!
A few weeks ago, our Eco Council went out litter picking in the local area. They managed to collect quite a lot of litter from the local community in their bin bags, and everyone had a wonderful time. They were so enthusiastic and eager to clear the village.
Well done, Eco Council!
Over the Easter holidays, 33 Clifton students from Y10 and Y11 visited France and Belgium to see the trenches and battlegrounds of WW1. The group visited a variety of monuments, including Vimy Ridge, Thiepval (where our King paid tribute to the soldiers of the Somme on the centenary of the battle in 2016), and Tynecot Cemetery.
The students also enjoyed the Flanders Field Interactive Museum. As well as this, they got to witness The Last Post at the Menin Gate, where soldiers have been called home from battle since 1918. The students learnt so much from the visit, simply by being surrounded by history.
Well done everyone, you were a credit to the school and WPT!
A few weeks ago, a graduation was held for our Y11 Access to Sheffield Students. Over the last two years these students have spent time attending experience days at the University of Sheffield, and even took part in an overnight residential, living life as a university student.
They have learnt so much over the last couple of years and made some great friends from other schools across the region. We are really proud of them all.
Congratulations to Jake, Ayomide, Dulcinee, Ruya, and Leke!
On Wednesday 7th May 2025, Clifton Drama Club presented their first official ‘Comedy Sketch Show’ in the Performance Hall.
The show was a resounding success; deliberately informal and offering free entry – the show provided the kind and generous audience of the Clifton Community with colour, laughter, and the life and spirit of Clifton’s warmth, humour and intelligence in eight madcap sketches that proved to go down really well with the audience.
The show celebrated the Clifton Drama students – and there are many! Clifton Drama Club officially boasts a total of 32 students joining from Y7, Y8 and Y9.
A heartfelt and sincere thank you to all the parents, family members, friends, and Clifton
students who came to see the show. Your presence was truly felt and appreciated.
A huge congratulations to these superstars on achieving the highest number of hours recorded on IXL over the last month. With over 93 hours of additional home learning between them, they have certainly gone above and beyond.
Fantastic work, well done!
Year 2 had a fantastic time with Pops Outdoor Adventure during their Forest School session! The children stepped back in time to the Great Fire of London and worked together to put out the fire on Pudding Lane. Using a leather bucket, they formed a human chain, and passed water down the line.
They all showed incredible teamwork, well done Y2!
Earlier this half term, FS1 were filled with excitement as Ian's Mobile Farm came to visit. The children's eyes lit up as they met friendly farm animals like lambs, goats, chikcens, and even a tortoise! They had the chance to pet, feed, and learn about each animal in a safe, hands-on experience.
There were giggles and smiles all around, while FS1 brushed the alpacas and stroked fluffy rabbits. The visit sparked joy and curiosity, turning a regular school day into an unforgettable farmyard adventure.
This half term, Y7 student Ava came into school with her bronze and silver medals to show to staff. She gained these after competing in several kickboxing matches. Everyone is super proud of her, what a fantastic achievement.
Well done, Ava!
On Wednesday 30th April, TA student, Dylan, took part in the final match of the Rotherham School Boys u13s Yorkshire Federation League. It was yet another successful outcome, with their 11th win out of 11 games.
Throughout the season they have also beat the likes of Sheffield, Leeds, and Barnsley, scoring 65 goals and only conceding 3. Dylan played a huge part in the team’s victory, and should be extremely proud of himself.
Well done!
On Friday 9th May, Y9 students at Thrybergh Academy celebrated 80 years since the end of World War Two with a street party. We also welcomed Y5 students from Foljambe Primary and Thrybergh Primary to join us in our celebrations. Students had cakes and sandwiches, listened to some 1940’s music, and played some outdoor games together in the afternoon.
On the 8th May 1945, Britain rejoiced and celebrated the end of conflict in Europe by putting aside differences and coming together as a community. At Thrybergh Academy we marked the 80th anniversary of VE day by coming together as a community to celebrate, and have some fun!
A huge thank you to all of the students that were involved in this event.
On Friday 2nd May, we celebrated our fantastic Year 13 students with a garden party, as they marked their last day as a full cohort before the exam season. It was a chance to connect and wish them well after all their hard work.
As exams begin, we’re incredibly proud of everything they’ve achieved, and want to offer our full support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything.
Wishing you the very best of luck, Year 13!
Wickersley Sixth Form students, Ava and Abigail, represented the school and the Yorkshire region at the British School’s Gymnastics Championships in Stoke, having previously taken first place in the Yorkshire Championships.
The Under 19 pair performed excellently, and came agonisingly close to a bronze medal, losing out by 0.277 to the pair from Northern Ireland. However, coming fourth in a national competition is still such a fantastic achievement, and they should be extremely proud of themselves.
Well done!
