Welcome to the latest edition of the WPT Newsletter.
Going into the Summer Term has definitely been filled with activities and achievements! Take a look at some of the things our students and staff have been up to. To find out what else all of our schools have been up to, check out their websites!
On behalf of everyone at Wickersley Partnership Trust, have a great half term.
As part of our WPT is 10 celebrations, we're putting on a showcase of talents for students, parents, teachers and members of our community. The event aims to mark a decade of educational achievements, people development, community involvement and looking to the future.
To make this event as spectacular as possible for our students and local community, we need your help! We're looking for sponsors for the events that we're running across our celebration week - if you or someone you know would be interested in providing corporate sponsorship, please email communications@wickersleypt.org for more information and packages.

Ash Class went on their school trip to the National Emergency Services Museum to learn more about the people who help them. They were able to use some of their knowledge from the First Aid course during the trip!
To celebrate National Earth Day 2024, Y6 made it their mission to tidy up around the school and local area. They started near the park and down the streets around school. They then finished at the car park and around the school grounds.
Well done, Aston Lodge!
Our Y4 swimmers have recently completed their swimming sessions, and all the students received an award! We’d like to give a special well done to Charley, for being awarded the most improved swimmer.
We are so proud of you Hazel Class, you have done fantastically!
On Friday 17th May, 700 children from around Rotherham came together to take part in the Rotherham School Games Colour Run in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
The main objectives of the Colour Run were to have fun, take part in physical activity and raise money for a good cause.
The event has raised a whopping £6424.87, so far! Well done to everyone involved!
On the 15th April, a small group of Year 9 students completed the North West Regional Final Prince’s Trust Enterprise Challenge at the Marriot Hotel in Manchester.
They competed in this competition against 1400 students and multiple schools across the North West of England. The judges decided they were the best group out of everyone, they won the whole competition and brought home the trophy for WSSC.
Some of the Y11 girls took part in a Rounders Tournament this week, against Wath and Aston. The team finished as the runner up! They lost to Aston, but then fielded very well against Wath and scored some brilliant Rounders against them, and ultimately beat Wath. The team thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
The Y11 Wickersley School football team were successful in their final cup campaign. The team played Dinnington School in the Y11 Rotherham Boy’s Cup Final; the game finished 4-0 with Wickersley lifting the cup.
What a fantastic couple of nights at the RCS Movement Evening! It was really lovely to see so many students from Year 7-11 involved in such a spectacular show. It was an evening full of singing and dancing the night away, and everyone did such a brilliant job!
RCS held their Core (Murder Mystery) Transition evening. Y6s got the opportunity to rotate around English, Maths and Science completing various tasks to solve the mystery.
Members of the Student Council volunteered to support the event and we had a fantastic turnout.
On Wednesday 1st May, the RCS Y9 Sports Leaders ran a Multi-Sport Transition Festival. The event saw three RCS feeder schools bring ten children to come and take part in sporting activities. With the event having a focus on easing transition for those new Y7s.
We are so impressed with these Year 5 superstars who participated in the Movement Evening at Clifton Community School, they did brilliantly and made their school very proud!

Chestnut class had a wonderful science lesson learning all about trees!
They worked together fantastically to categorise the trees into deciduous and evergreen. After this, they went on a tree hunt outside.

We are so proud of our Y3/4 cricket team who took part in the Dynamos Cricket tournament today! They showed true sportsmanship and demonstrated respect throughout the event.

The secondary RE team were invited to iftar (fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan) at Madina Masjid Sheffield. The team have recently completed our series of Year 7 visits to the mosque for this academic year in our Rotherham schools, these visits form part of our entitlement curriculum, enabling students to visit free of charge. Our RE colleagues attended as visitors alongside members of the police and fire service. We would like to extend our thanks to Zahid Saleem and the Madina Masjid, who not only facilitate our school visits, but also showed us great hospitality during the evening.
Over the holidays, we held an Easter competition, which was open to all students across the Trust. The challenge was to take an Easter themed selfie/photo, or create a design.
Well done to Weronika, Lennon, Felicity, Muhammad and Amy who all received a prize and a certificate for their amazing entries!
Primary students across the Trust have all taken part in the TEKK Challenge as part of their in-classroom learning. This was in collaboration with Business & Education Together TEKK Challenge and HSBC.
This year’s challenge was to build playground equipment using a set list of resources and clear expectations.
HSBC, B&E Together and Wickersley Partnership Trust want to thank all students who participated across all the primary schools for their hard work and commitment to the 2024 TEKK Challenge!

One of our students, Billie, was recently away for a family wedding. Whilst playing around the pool, Billie saw a 4-year-old boy get into difficulty in the water. With no hesitation, Billie jumped in and helped the little boy – and saved him from difficulty.
Local charity, Sam’s Army, met with Billie to give her a certificate and medal for her bravery.
Everyone at Foljambe is super proud of Billie and her quick thinking for saving the little boy – what an amazing thing to do!
Class 3 had a lovely time practicing their art skills with oil pastels. The children followed instructions to create beautiful landscapes!
They also showed great resilience when things didn’t go quite right, to make sure they reached a finished piece.

Class 1 have been taking part in lots of fun, outdoor learning, and making the most of the lovely sunshine.

Students from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in the TCS Mini London Marathon. The aim was to run or walk a combined 2.6 miles, which they successfully achieved and luckily the sun came out for the afternoon too!
All students received a certificate, and the school received a trophy.
Well done to everyone in Key Stage 2 for this fantastic achievement!
Year 9 and Year 10 students went on a trip to Magdalen College in Oxford. Everyone had the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be a student at one of the top universities in the country!
Students had an introduction and tour of the college, seeing the beautiful buildings and famous deer park. They also met some current students and had the opportunity to ask them questions about life at Oxford.
The Clifton Movement Evening saw 130 Y7-Y11 students proudly dancing, singing and signing to music from the 50s to present day.
One proud Dad said that it was the best fiver he had ever spent. That’s what we like to hear!

Our amazing School Council presented their annual report to West Lindsey District Council. They highlighted their hard work and achievements, and discussed at length their ambition for the school. Students also got to interview a council panel, where members talked about their career paths and how at a young age, you can make big decisions that affect your career.
We are pleased to announce that Marshalls Sports under 14 girls represented Gainsborough at the national ESF tournament this weekend!
They finished in third place, narrowly missing out on a semi final position. Although they didn’t quite make the finals, they were against top quality competition, facing teams from Newcastle, Leicester and Hull to name a few. They were also the only team to take points from the group winners!
We would like to thank all the girls for their hard work!
This year, students from TGA went to Santa Caterina in Italy for the ski trip.
Well done to all the students who joined us on the trip, you made your school proud!
We've continued with our Proud to be TGA initiative this half term. We want our students to be Proud of the work they accomplish and of the school they belong to. Our Proud Podium, Proud phone calls home, and Proud Plenaries are just some of the ways we have been accomplishing this.

Y4/5 have been practising different styles of stitching in order to make their own bags for life. They have completed their final designs and are ready to move onto the final step of producing their own bags.
Well done everyone.
In PE, Y2/3 have been practising their control by playing mini tennis using a ball and hoop, they couldn’t let go of the hoop so they had to listen to eachothers instructions carefully.
They all worked so hard and listened to each other fantastically, well done Year 2/3!
In Art, the children have been experimenting with background designs for their Frida Kahlo inspired self portraits. Everyone showed some real resilience to get this right, and we are super proud.

Last week, Y2 went on a sound walk in Science. This involved a walk around the school grounds to see what sounds they could hear.
Some of the sounds they recorded were birds tweeting, children talking and cars on the main road.
Well done Year 2!
Year 6 have been learning about the significant times in history when different groups of people migrated to Britain. They then ordered these on a timeline, and looked at how the reasons for migration have changed over time.
Well done for all your hard work Y6!
FS1 went outside and explored the woodland area! They used the mud kitchen and all the pots and pans that have been donated.
They also collected some sticks in a variety of sizes and measured them. As well as this, they collected some leaves, using the wheelbarrow to transport them to the mud kitchen.
They have been superstars at sharing this week, well done FS1!
Aston Hall’s Eliza combined her passion for looking after the environment with her English skills, and wrote a formal letter to our local MP about rubbish that she saw had been dumped in Ulley Brook Reservoir.
She put her points forward clearly, and made suggestions about what could be done to protect the wildlife and keep the area clean. Her amazing letter made an impact on Alexander Stafford MP who replied and has already taken action.
Great job Eliza!
In April, LKS2 went on their first ever residential trip! They stayed overnight at Gulliver’s Valley and took part in loads of exciting activities such as laser tag, indoor caving, rock art and mini golf. They had access to lots of the rides at the park and also developed their survival skills by learning to build shelters and light fires.
Over 80 students visited Gulliver’s, they made the school very proud and demonstrated The Aston Hall Way!

What a fantastic day for Aston Hall Junior & Infant School, as we took part in the U11 Girls Football Competition. The Year 5 & 6 girls demonstrated fantastic football skills and showed excellent teamwork and communication. The girls who already play competitively for a team outside of school demonstrated great leadership skills, and all the girls grew in confidence throughout the day.
They won three matches and drew one, finishing with 11 points and coming 5th overall, just missing out on a place in the semi-finals, but we are immensely proud of what our team achieved.

At the end of last term, the Rotherham Borough Council Rangers invited Thrybergh Academy’s Student Council to support in the planting of fruit trees in the local community.
After a briefing and demonstration from the rangers on how to plant the new pear and apple saplings, the students got stuck in to the task of planting them to line the park wall along Vale Road next to school.
The students thoroughly enjoyed learning a new skill whilst contributing to Thrybergh’s community fields. A big thank you to RMBC for the invitation! We look forward to seeing the trees grow and flourish over the next few years.
On Wednesday 8th May, 16 Y10 students took part in a full day workshop led by a Speakers Trust trainer. Students developed their communication skills and expanded their comfort zones.
They gained insights on overcoming nerves and learned how to listen and work together to give positive and constructive feedback to each other. Students were given time to create their own speech from scratch before performing them at the end of the school day.

Students at Thrybergh Science Club on 7/11/23 had a bonfire night theme where we investigated various chemical mixtures to produce different coloured flames like they see in various fireworks.
We also did the screaming jelly baby which is like a firework putting a jelly baby into a melted solution of potassium chlorate. Then we finished off with some tie dyeing of various materials.
Everyone worked well and had a good time!
Y5 have been working on their cycling skills with Bikeability. They learnt how to stay safe on their bicycle, and how to improve their skills further. It was lovely to see their confidence increase as they practiced.

Some of our students celebrated the Islamic festival of Eid al-Fitr, the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast over the school holidays. They came to school in some of their amazing outfits, that they wore for the Eid celebrations at home. Children spoke about how they had celebrated Eid with their families and how their families had fasted during the period of Ramadan.
Y3 have been busy reading Stig of the Dump. They looked at text marking and thought about how the text should be read from the words the author had written.

Y12 A-Level Physics students took part in the Senior Physics Challenge Competition from the British Physics Olympiad. This competition is a traditional problem based set of questions and designed for all those who like to engage in problem solving questions and developing those skills.
We would like to congratulate all our A-Level Physics students for taking part in the competition!
