December 2022

Welcome to our second WPT newsletter of the 22/23 academic year.

It's been a busy half term, with lots of new and exciting things happening across our schools. This newsletter will showcase just a some of the things that we've been getting up to over the last few weeks.

WPT Christmas Card Competition 2022

Over the past few weeks, students from across all of our schools have been getting creative in our fourth annual WPT Christmas Card competition.

The competition was tough this year – we had hundreds of amazing entries that we thoroughly enjoyed looking through.

We can now reveal the winners!

WPT Opens Newly Refurbished Pool

For many years now, we’ve been hosting swimming lessons for students across the Trust and the borough at our swimming pool at Aston Lodge Primary School.

This year, we decided it was time to give the pool area some TLC with a full refurbishment.

A Night of Celebration at the WPT Staff Awards

On Friday 18th November, staff from across all of Wickersley Partnership Trust’s schools and Central Team came together – at Magna Science Adventure Centre – to rightfully celebrate the hard work, commitment and dedication that they put in every day to ensure the best possible education and outcomes for our students.

RCS Presents Moana Jr

The curtains closed and set sail from the island of Te Fiti for the last time for our final performance of Moana Jr on 8th December.

The cast all worked incredibly hard on this production and we couldn't be more proud of them!

Y10 Photography

During the Autumn term, Y10 Photography students explored formal elements. They have captured some beautiful Autumn colours and some chilling Halloween images using a range of lighting techniques.

Remembrance Day

On Friday 11th November, James Leverett laid a wreath for his father on Remembrance Day. In respect of the many who also gave the ultimate sacrifice in the two world wars and other conflicts.

Letters to Santa

At the beginning of the month, we walked to the post box to post the letters we have written to Father Christmas.

It was a fantastic way to get us all in the festive spirit!

School Games Hockey Success

We are so proud of our Hockey Team who made it through to the Quarter-Finals of the School Games Hockey Competition last month.

They all showed outstanding sportsmanship throughout.

Anti-Bullying Week

For Anti-Bullying Week, Chestnut Class all discussed what they think bullying is and how they should reach out if this happened to them , or if they saw it happen to others.

The children came in their odd socks and we discussed how important it is to be kind, and to help others.

WSSC Presents Sleeping Beauty

The curtains closed on our 16th family Christmas pantomime on Saturday afternoon, after a four-performacne run to sell-out audiences.

Work has already commenced on 2023's pantomime - ROBIN HOOD - so be sure to look out for the tickets in September next year!

Sporting Success for Y7's Tyler

Y7 student, Tyler is a keen cricketer and plays for Yorkshire. A few weeks ago, she received an award for Best Under 11 Bowler of the Season!

She was praised for her performances throughout the season and was described by her coach as having genuine pace.

Well done on your sporting achievement, Tyler!

An Insight into Army Life

Recently, 46 students from Year 9, 10 and 11 had an exciting day with the Army.

The visit was designed to give students an insight into Army life and the types of exercises they would have to undertake as part of life in the Army.

Aston Tara Award

We are very excited to announce that Aston Lodge Primary School has been rewarded with an award from Aston Tara for the work completed by our school throughout the pandemic.

Parent Workshops

Over the past few weeks, the students have loved having parents and carers in to look at their favourite pieces of work this term.

It was also fantastic to some do some Christmas crafting together!

Thanks to all parents and carers for coming along and making some special memories at Aston Lodge.

A Trip to Conisbrough Castle

Last month, Beech Class went on their first class trip of the year, and where better than Conisbrough Castle!

After already learning about Conisbrough Castle in History lessons, it was fantastic to visit and learn even more whilst we were there.

Festive Celebrations

Students enjoyed making Christingles and participating with their big singing voices in our Christingle Service recently.

It was a great way to start this year's festive celebrations!

A Field Trip Without Leaving the Classroom

Class 3 recently went on a field trip to Rotherham, but we didn't even leave the classroom!

We used Streetview to navigate the streets and identify physical and human features.

Class 3 Geography

Earlier this term, we were visited by Simon Pugh from Learning Community - a charity linked to St Leonard's Church in Thrybergh.

The children investigated if everyone in Rotherham have enough food as part of our Geography theme about food.

WPT Appoints Trust Council Representatives

It's official! We have our Trust Council for the 22/23 academic year.

Monday 28th November saw our newly-formed Trust Council come together for their first meeting of the year.

To finish off our very productive first meeting, we set an agenda for our School Councils, and how we're going to move forward with our fantastic new ideas over the next year.

WPT Primary Schools Learn African Drumming

Over this term, students from across WPT's primary schools have been learning African Drumming, with workshops delivered by Unbeatable Energy.

The children learned all about the different African drums and performed their drumming routines to their schools.

Great job!

WPT Hosts Student Careers Fair

On Friday 2nd December, we held a Careers Fair at our Cranworth Road site for students across the Trust to gain valuable insight into the Post-16 and career opportunities that are available.

Students from all four Rotherham secondary schools came along to talk to a wide range of providers including local colleges, universities, the armed forces, public sector organisations and private sector companies.

Class 4's Outdoor Learning

We are so proud of our students' behaviour whilst out and about in the local community last month.

They were so sensible and listened carefully to all instructions so that we could keep each other safe.

They were also amazing geographers who spotted so many physical and human features around us.

Well done, Class 4!

TGA Presents We Will Rock You

This year, our Christmas production was We Will Rock You.

It was a fantastic show, and we'd like to thank all students and staff for their hard work putting this together!

Y11 Careers Morning

Last month we hosted a careers morning with local colleges, training providers and sixth forms, where Y11 students had the opportunity to complete applications and use Unifrog - our new careers platform.

Thank you to the School Council for hosting the event, and organising refreshments and car parking.

TGA Cross Country

Congratulations to all those that were selected to represent The Gainsborough Academy at the District Cross Country on Friday 18th November.

They all performed to their maximum an did the academy proud.

Congratulations to two students that were selected to represent the county in January in Stamford.

Scaling New Heights

We had a great experience at the climbinb wall with Mr Bloor and Mr Walker.

There are some budding rock climbers in our class who certainly have no fear of heights!

A brilliant thrill-packed day!

Our Annual Santa Dash

On Friday we did our annual Santa Dash to raise money for Rotherham Hospice and Sheffield Children's Hospital.

It was very, very cold but we wrapped up and raised money for charities close to our hearts.

Christmas Dinner

We held our annual Christmas Dinner this week.

Lots of happy children and more wonderful memories made!

BBC Share Your Story

Recently, Clifton welcomed the team from BBC Share Your Story.

All of our KS3 students had the opportunity to hear a story of resilience and overcoming adversity from a BBC Researcher.

They also learnt about what it's like to work for the BBC and how students can get involved with BBC Young Reporters.

It was a great way to be a part of the 100 years of the BBC celebrations.

Y7 Netball - 11-0 Victory

At the beginning of the term, the Y7 netballers played Wingfield and were dominant from the start.

In practice, they'd worked on strong passing and shooting, which they successfully put to good use in the game securing an 11-0 victory.

Certificates and Awards Evening

We welcomed the Class of 2022 back through the Clifton doors a few weeks ago for their Certificates and Awards Evening.

They picked up their GCSE certificates and picked up a series of individual awards celebrating their personal attributes and acheivements across the curriculum.

Aston Hall Cheer on the Sheffield Steelers

On Saturday 29th November, over 220 students, parents and staff from Aston Hall came together for another annual community event - this time at the Sheffield Arena to see Sheffield Steelers take on arch-rivals, the Nottingham Panthers.

FS2 Learn About Emergency Services

FS2 had a brilliant time visiting the National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield, to help support our learning question for this half term 'Can you help me?'.

Wellbeing Wednesday

Our With Me In Mind Student Ambassadors have had a fantastic response to Wellbeing Wednesday.

Children had the opportunity to take part in mindful activities during lunchtime to help promote positive wellbeing.

Monkwood Students Shortlisted in the WPT Christmas Card Competition

Congratulations to Rowan, Ada, Arthur, Hunter and Isaac for their fantastic WPT Christmas Card Competition entries this year, and for being shortlisted out of hundreds of entries!

A special well done to Rowan who was chosen as the KS1 winner overall too!

FS2's VIP Guest

This term, FS2 have been learning all about Police Officers and we were super excited to have a very special guest come visit us and tell us all about his amazing job.

Peace Doves Project

The children at Monkwood have taken part in the Peace Doves Project, which is based on an installation by the artist, Peter Walker, in Sheffield Cathedral.

We reflected on what peace means to us and what we hope for our world in the future.

Thrybergh Academy Presents Jack and the Beanstalk

This year's Christmas production was Jack and the Beanstalk!

All performances were incredible - we're super proud of all of the staff and students who made this happen.

Well done to all!

Jack Goes Above and Beyond

Jack has gone above and beyond this week for Thrybergh's hamper donation.

He had asked his parents for some money from his own savings account to purchase a full shop for the hamper!

Although he did this in a truly selfless manner, we think he deserves recognition for the act of altruism.

Well done, Jack!

Jax Wins WPT Christmas Card Competition

Congratulations to Jax in FS2 for being chosen as the winner in the Foundation Stage category of the WPT Christmas Card Competition 2022.

A Festive and Magic Evening

To celebrate the festive season, students were invited back into school for a magical evening of stories, hot chocolate and biscuits.

It was a wonderful evening and celebrated our love of books!

30 Day Reading Challenge

Y5 have taken on the Bingo Bongo book this half term - a 30 day reading challenge!
