Hello, everyone!

The SEND team at The Gainsborough Academy are committed to identifying and addressing the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs/ Disabilities. Throughout their learning journey, we will ensure that every child with Special Educational Need(s) and/ or disability receives the most appropriate package of support to meet their needs.

Take a look at everything we've been doing to support our SEND students this term.

 Updates

Phase

Mrs Wilby and students in Phase have been back in the kitchen, and, in the festive spirit, they rustled up Puff Pastry Wreaths, filled with tasty treats of biscoff spread and chocolate chips!

Before the end of term, they're aiming to make some festive cupcakes too!

Proud Podium

We're continuing to hold our weekly Proud Podiums - which recognises a range of students each week for a variety of achievements.

Well done to everyone who has visited Proud Podium - keep it up!

We're Proud to be TGA ⭐

WPT is 10 Showcase

Some of our incredibly talented students took part in the WPT is 10 Showcase at Magna Science Adventure Centre – an event to commemorate the 10th anniversary since Wickersley Partnership Trust (WPT) was established.

Interventions

Phonics interventions have taken place for year 7 and 8 this term. We have seen some good progress amongst the students engaging with these. Some students have made such good progress that they have sucessfully completed the entire module!

We have also introduced our Lego therapy interventions this term, these have been a great success amongst our students.

Staff Updates

The teaching assistants have been doing an excellent job supporting year 11 students in their mock exams over the past two weeks.

We have also got two teaching assistants who have recently completed their ELSA training so we will be starting these interventions in January.

Miss Tate-Brier (Deputy SENDCo) has been liaising with the local primary schools and meeting year 6s that will be coming up to TGA next year. She has been working with the year 6 teachers and SENDCo's to ensure we have all the support in place for a smooth transition.

Miss Gibbons (SENDCo) has also been busy this term preparing for the production of Elf Jr The Musical which will take place on the last week of term. She has also made sure that all of the EHCP students and SEND students are supported during the show.

Events

29th December - On Friday 29th November, TGA had the pleasure of hosting over 25 companies in our Careers Fair.

Thank you to the following employment sectors for attending our event, and for making it a real success for the students:

Healthcare | Emergency Services | The Heritage Industry | Engineering | Colleges | Construction | DWP | West Lindsey District Council | Mental Health Charities

Delegates listened to a presentation about Future Skills, and their important development in driving our students’ aspirations further and higher, they then met with our fantastic Y11 students.

16th-18th December - Elf Jr to Musical

Our Christmas performance of Elf Jr the Musical was a huge success.

All the students involved were absolutely amazing and put in their all; it definitely paid off.

Thank you to everyone who attended a showing - your support is appreciated and we hope you enjoyed it!
