The Magna Lane Centre is a Primary SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) Resource will provide a broad, balanced and bespoke curriculum, in line with Wickersley Partnership Trust Curriculum Intent.
Our very clear expectation is to achieve better outcomes for all our children and young people. We firmly believe that we should never do less for other children than for our own.

In KS1, the children have been reading My Most Exciting Eid, which inspired us to organise our very own Eid celebration. The children then created instructions for how to organise an Eid party.
The children in LKS2 we have explored the book 'The Way Back Home', looking at the different settings and characters within the story. We then rewrote part of the book to come up with our own story about landing on the moon.
In Year 6, the children have been focusing on story writing. We used a short clip as a stimulus and created some really good plots to our story. The children then used the chromebooks to write these up and used lots of description and good language.
KS1's science topic has been materials. The children enjoyed taking part in a materials hunt to find the different types of materials in our environment, including wood, metal and plastic.
In LKS2 we have also focused on materials. We have explored different materials and their properties, and discussed why certain objects are made from specific materials.
Our topic in Year 6 this term has been electricity. The children enjoyed exploring the circuit equipment. We then looked at the symbols and used these to draw, create and check if circuits would work or not.
In KS1, we have looked at the artist Romero Britto. He is a Brazilian artist who creates cubism art and pop art. The children have developed their pattern and line skills to make art in the style of Romero Britto. They have enjoyed using bright colours to create their art work.
In LKS2 we have looked at the work of Henry Moore. The children have enjoyed exploring his sculptures and using clay to create their own.
In Year 6, the children looked at the artisit Stephen Wiltshire. He is a famous autistic artist who draws famous buildings and skylines. The children really seemed to connect with him and enjoyed being able to use scribble-type drawing to get the same effect.
KS1 have focused on the Arctic. We have looked at where the Arctic is in the world, who lives in the Arctic and which animals can be found there. The children then created a map of the Arctic, including the North Pole, the Arctic Circle and the Arctic Ocean.
This term the older children have focused upon North America. We have looked at the countries that make up North America and found information out about populations and land uses. We then moved onto extreme weather, in particular earthquakes. The children used a model to show why earthquakes happen and what happens to things on the land during one. This then lead us onto looking into why San Francsisco has so many earthquakes and about how the plates contribute to that.
In KS1, we have compared seaside holidays from the past and present day. The children have enjoyed looking at images from the past and seeing how seaside holidays were different many years ago and how they have changed over time.
In LKS2 we have looked at old and new toys. The children have compared the similarities and differences between them, exploring the different materials and technology used. This led to us looking at which toys the children enjoyed the most and why.
In PE this term, our KS1 children have been developing their gymnastics skills with a focus on control, coordination, and confidence. They have explored a variety of jumps, learning how to take off safely and land with balance and stability. The children have practised different landing techniques, such as bending their knees to absorb impact and holding still to show control. They have also been introduced to finishing positions, encouraging them to present their movements with poise and confidence.
KS1 made their own naan breads for our Eid celebration afternoon. We also tried curry, poppadoms and mango chutney.
The children have also made their very own sausage rolls by rolling the pastry and filling it with the sausage meat. They enjoyed taste testing their sausage rolls once they were cooked!
The KS1 children have developed their keyboard skills this term, learning how to play simple notes and rhythms with increasing confidence. They have explored different sounds and patterns, building their understanding of pitch and tempo while improving their coordination and control. The children have particularly enjoyed sharing their music with each other, performing in small groups and listening respectfully to their peers. This has helped to build their confidence, creativity, and appreciation of music.
Well done to one of our Year 3 children who received Star of the Week for their fantastic achievement in completing work in the main school and truly going above and beyond. Keep up the amazing work! ⭐
The children thoroughly enjoyed their trip to Ulley, where they embraced a wide range of outdoor activities with enthusiasm and curiosity. They took part in archery, developing their focus and coordination, and worked together during den building, using teamwork and creativity to construct their shelters. The children also engaged in problem-solving challenges, showing resilience and determination as they worked through tasks together. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they tried new experiences and supported one another throughout the day.
As part of our animal therapy sessions, we have welcomed a new furry visitor, Murphy the guinea pig. The children have loved spending time with him, helping to care for him and learning how to handle him gently and responsibly. Murphy has especially enjoyed nibbling on swede and listening to the children read him stories, creating a calm and nurturing environment. These sessions have supported the children’s confidence, communication, and wellbeing, and have been a highlight for many.
The Year 6 children have been focusing on themselves and their own identites. They have looked into what Autism and ADHD is and how it affects them and their everyday life. We think it is important that they start to develop the confidence to accept themselves and strive to be the best they can be.
