Hello, everyone!
What a purposeful start to the academic year this autumn term has been!
The autumn term in Special Educational Needs is always a time of fresh beginnings and focused action. It’s a season for establishing strong systems, setting clear expectations, and ensuring every child’s needs are at the heart of our planning. Together with the team, we have been deeply engaged in implementing strategies, sharing best practice, and embedding approaches that support all pupils to thrive.
Our focus this term has remained on creating an inclusive and supportive environment for every young person with SEND, guided by our core intentions: promoting well-being, developing social, emotional, and mental health, raising aspirations, and securing positive learning outcomes.
From updating documentation and centralising resources to refining classroom strategies and SEMH support systems, every step has been taken to ensure that pupils are supported, staff are confident, and families are partners in their child’s learning journey. This autumn term has laid a strong foundation for continued growth and success throughout the year.
What have been working on this term:
Assessing progress: Completion of baseline assessments to identify each child’s needs.
Support plans: Reviewing and updating SEND support plans and SNAP profiles.
Pupil voice: Launching consultations through 1:1 discussions and surveys so children’s views are included in their plans.
Inclusion: Ensuring all children have access to extracurricular activities, clubs, and responsibilities.
Life skills targets: Identifying pupils who would benefit from tailored life skills goals.
Classroom strategies: Embedding strategies to support learning in everyday lessons.
Parent engagement: Offering “Loose Lips” sessions with a SEND focus, providing SEND support packs, and sharing links to the Local Offer.
Monitoring progress: Updating provision maps, SEND folders, and reviewing EHCPs, including targets from outside agencies (SALT, OT, etc.).
Setting goals: Reviewing Autumn targets and creating new Spring targets to support ongoing progress.
We are committed to ensuring that all children feel supported, included, and empowered to succeed. If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s support plan, please contact the SEND team.

🎳 Our team did us proud at the Panathlon Challenge Ten Pin Bowling competition held at Rotherham Superbowl! The event, organised by Rotherham School Games and Panathlon, was a fantastic opportunity for our children to showcase and develop their bowling skills while competing against other Rotherham schools.
Even though we were a team member down, our scores were still amazing!
Well done, Team Aston Hall! 😁🙌🏼
These two amazing year 6 boys were the only two in Outdoor Club one week, and they worked so hard. The result? A brand new, fabulous gravel border in just 40 minutes for all to enjoy! 🙌🏻💪🏼
Not only did they graft outdoors, but they had also been round to see classes through school on a mission to tell everyone about the seed kits. The seeds inside are from the sweet pea plants they so conscientiously watered every day last summer and they are proud to be able to share them. They are passionate that other children can enjoy the outdoors as much as they do.
Charlie and Archie, hats off to you both 👌🏼
Aston Hall Y3/4 boys’ football team took part in a fantastic competition, showing brilliant skill, teamwork, and determination throughout.
The boys played with great spirit, winning one of their games and putting in strong performances against some tough opposition. They supported one another, never gave up, and gained valuable experience that will help them continue to grow and improve as players.
We are incredibly proud of every member of the team for their hard work and excellent sportsmanship – you represented Aston Hall with pride!
A huge thank you also goes to Mrs Rodgers for taking the team and supporting them throughout the competition.
Updates
Loose Lips Don't Sink Ships!
Each term, we will be holding a loose lips coffee and cake meeting for parents/ carers and families to come and talk about children with additional needs (Superpowers!). We had a great meeting in October, where out parents/carers came together for coffee, cake, a catch up and craft!
We made puppets! Puppets are wonderful in enabling children to be expressive, playful and spontaneous. They can be a powerful tool in helping children to share their experiences and explore their feelings from a safe distance so that they can begin to understand and reflect on situations, emotions and their world around them.
Celebrating Our Hamish and Milo Journey
As we are fast approaching the end of the Autumn term, the children in our Hamish and Milo groups will be coming together for their final session, marking the end of a special journey filled with learning, growth, and connection. To celebrate everything the children have achieved, we will be holding a small but meaningful celebration during this final session.
Each child will take part in a short ceremony where they will be presented with a gold star featuring their photograph. Alongside their photo will be a written celebration of one amazing thing about them – something they can feel truly proud of. These stars might recognise qualities such as being an amazing friend, a great story writer, a fantastic football player, kind and thoughtful, or any of the many other wonderful strengths the children show every day. 🌟
Thank you so much for your support and for helping us end the Hamish and Milo sessions on such a positive and affirming note.
EYFS
What an amazing 1st school trip! The children were all fantastic and hopefully they have had lots to tell you about all the amazing things they saw and did. We are super proud of them all!
Rainbows and The Cove
<< Look who has arrived in the cove!
Noah showed and told everyone about his tooth coming out. Great sharing, Noah and good listening, everyone.
The children also had so much fun, saying he had a magic wand 🪄 ✨️ and turning all his friends plus the teacher into animals.
Well done!
Y3/4
In Computing, we’ve been learning how to use Google Docs and have been changing the font style, size and colour of text.
We also had a go on TT Rockstars before we put the Chromebooks away.
Y5
The Christmas Fayre was a great hit! Well done, Y5!
Our hot chocolate sticks went down an absolute treat at the fayre – we sold out so quickly! A big well done to everyone who helped on the other stalls too.
Wow! Y5/6ME were absolutely fantastic on the climbing wall this term. They never stopped cheering each other on, showed brilliant teamwork and every single child achieved their personal best.
We are so proud of them! 🧗 💫
