The SEMH resource is currently based at Thrybergh Academy in the Arran Hill Centre. Children from all secondary schools in the Trust have the opportunity to access this resource in the event that their presenting needs mean that they are unable to access the mainstream classroom – helping children with a range of SEMH needs, which include school refusers to children with hidden disabilities.
Our very clear expectation is to achieve better outcomes for all our children and young people. We firmly believe that we should never do less for other children than for our own.

SCIENCE WEEK
The Mad Scientist!
This year, the Arran Hill students had a mad scientist on the loose. Professor Brainwash locked himself in the lab, developing a dangerous poison, and we needed to find the hidden key to stop him.
Students used their science knowledge to answer riddles and complete activities, which would lead them to where the key had been hidden by Prof. Brainwash.
Students were great and showed great teamwork and resilience. Y9 found the key the quickest, followed very closely by Y7/8. Well done everyone who took part!
To finish our Science Week, we also played science-themed games. Periodic Table Battleships was a 'HIT' and helped students to navigate finding elements on the periodic table.
In Art, we have been looking at an artist called Klari Reis, who creates art in petri dishes. We have then created our own versions using paint, fabric, felt and beads for our GCSE coursework.
We have also created tiles using mark making with Albrect Durer's Rhino as inspiration.
We now have a dedicated ELSA room where students have a weekly 1-1 session.
These sessions aim to allow students the time to develop their emotional regulation and articulate their feelings.
Abi has been working with all students to develop the ELSA room into a collaborative and positive space.
Each student has created their own sea creature to be added into the Arran Hill fishtank to represent we are part of a team together and to 'just keep swimming'.
We have developed a new positive reward system. This term we are flying into outer space with our rewards chart.
Each student has created their own superhero who will fly from one star to the next each time they recieve a cause for praise point. The CFP points will be collected at the end of each week and the student with the most will recieve a prize. This will be repeated at the end of each term and the winner will recieve a voucher.
On Tuesday 18th March, a group of Arran Hill students had the opportunity to visit Manchester United Football ground. During the visit, students were given a standium tour including changing rooms, museum tour and the opportunity to play a football match on site. Students had an amazing time and the visit gave them the ability to discuss a range of careers linked to sport.
To celebrate pancake day, students worked together in making pancakes for everyone in the centre.
They worked in groups preparing the mixture for both thin and American style pancakes and showed great teamwork and communication skills, they prepared a selection of tasty toppings and presented them to the staff.
To celebrate Red Nose Day, students took part in several activities with the aim to raise money for the Comic Relief.
The Ready, Steady, Bake activity saw students create red nose day themed bakes such as red nose cheesecakes, red velvet cupcakes and cherry cookies, which were sold to students and staff.
The students competed in sporting activities and a red nose day art competition. To raise extra funds, there was also a name the teddy compteition and guess how many sweets are in the jar. The students and staff had an amazing day and raised over £70 for the charity.
We have recently had some amazing changes at the Arran Hill Centre.
The Arran Hill Centre has a new office and reception area alongside a 'Zen Den' where students can relax on bean bags and socialise during break times.
As previously mentioned, we also have a wonderful new ELSA room where students have 1-1 intervention sessions with Abi, our ELSA trained member of staff.
There are further developments coming soon so watch this space! 👀
