It is likely that students in high school are using artificial intelligence every day, with or without their awareness. If a student is viewing YouTube, TikTok, or any streaming services (Netflix, Spotify), these platforms rely on AI algorithms to suggest content. In social media platforms, features like smart filters, suggested replies, and AI powered chatbots are becoming more common.
We want to empower our students to respect this technology and to have the skills to use this technology to make a positive difference in the world. This starts by us modeling cautious curiosity and responsible computing. It is crucial that we have open conversations with our students about how AI works in these contexts, its potential benefits and drawbacks.
All of our students deserve to be welcomed into this space in a safe and careful way.
We hope these resources support you.
Sincerely,
