To investigate participation, we will use data to answer the following questions:
1) How well do our AP CS courses represent our population district-wide and school-wide?
2) How well do our CS courses represent our population district-wide and school-wide?
Below, you will find two sets of data sets organized by course type.
Key Conclusions:
Conard High School's enrollment in most computer science courses has generally decreased from 2020 until 2023, with a marked decrease in most CS classes from the 2021-2022 year to the 2022-2023 year. Hall High School's enrollment in most computer science courses has increased. This link will help you to view the comparison of Hall and Conard over time.
Females are underrepresented in computer science courses across the district. Hall High School AP CS classes are showing the most gain in terms of Female representation with 39% of students taking AP CS in 2021-22 and 36% of students taking AP CS in 2022-23.
There are some district-wide observations:
African American / Black students are underrepresented in AP CS classes and they are overrepresented in non-AP CS classes across district.
Hispanic / Latinx students are underrepresented in AP CS classes across district. They are roughly representative in non-AP CS classes.
White students are representative in AP and non-AP CS classes across district.
Asian / Pacific Islander students are overrepresented in AP and non-AP CS across district.
