What is Junior Workshop?
The Junior Workshop series is designed to support high school juniors in understanding the post-high school planning process with a strong focus on career and colleges readiness. Through interactive workshops, students explore career interests, learn about college and post-high school pathways, and gain a clear understanding of graduation requirements, application components and timelines. The series emphasizes planning, goal setting and next steps, helping students make informed decisions and feel confident as they prepare for life after high school.
Syllabus
Week 1 Introduction to Junior Planning & Post High School Planning - Students learn how junior year connects to life after high school and begin thinking about their future goals
Week 2 Senior Year Course Selection - Students explore how to choose senior year classes that support graduation requirements and future plans
Week 3 Identifying Fit Criteria - Students identify what matters most to them when considering options after high school, such as programs, locations, size and cost.
Week 4 Naviance SuperMatch College Search - Students learn how to use Naviance SuperMatch to start finding colleges that match their interests and goals.
Week 5 Building a Balanced & Individualized List - Students continue refining their college list in Naviance and identify Reach, Target and Favorable schools
Week 6 Resume and Letters of Recommendation - Students learn how to strengthen their resume and understand the process to request letters of recommendation.
Week 7 SAT Overview - Students review standardized testing information and how it fits into college planning.
Week 8 Introduction to Common Application - Students get an overview of the Common Application and what to expect during the college application process.
Week 9 Financial Aid - Students learning the basics of paying for college and strategies to stay organized and manage their time.
Week 10 Mock Admissions Committee Experience - Students analyze how academic rigor, extracurricular involvement and personal voice integrate to form a complete 4-year applicant profile.
