Theatre Arts Classes

Beginning Theatre Arts

This course is designed to offer the student an introduction to all avenues of the Theatre Arts. Students will explore technical theatre, acting in scenes, improvisation and dancing as well as elements necessary to prepare for an onstage performance.

This course requires all students to participate in after school rehearsals and performances.


Intermediate Theatre Arts

Prerequisite: Beginning Theatre Arts or by audition

This course is designed for preparing the student to perform in a stage play and/or musical theatre production. This class reinforces the skills learned in Beginning Theatre Arts and adds to the skills previously acquired in regards to performing on stage. Students will also learn basic directing and stage combat skills on stage.

This course requires all students to participate in after school rehearsals and performances.


Theatre Arts Proficient Honors

Prerequisite: Intermediate Theatre or by audition

This advanced level course is designed to challenge the Theatre student in the areas of directing, playwriting, and technical theatre. Students will be working as an actor, director or assistant director, playwrite, as well as theatre technicians.

Students are required to work on set construction and attend rehearsals and performances outside of class.


Theatre Arts Advanced Honors

Prerequisite: Proficient Honors or by audition

This advanced level course is designed to prepare the serious theatre student for life in the theatre beyond the high school arena. Through a rigorous series of creative projects, the Honors Theatre student is challenged to work as an actor, a director, and a theatre technician. Students study advanced principles of acting and character analysis including an exploration of objectives, obstacles, choices and given circumstances, as well as basic stage and rehearsal terms. Students serve as a casting director during an audition process, and are expected to lead improvisations, exercises, and class discussions.

Students are also required to work on set construction and attend rehearsals and performances outside of class.
