Membership Requirements
Eligibility:
a. Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be members of the sophomore, junior, or senior class.
b. To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have been enrolled for a period equivalent to one semester at Whitehouse High School.
c. Candidates eligible for election to the chapter shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 93.000 on a 100.000 scale.
d. Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment and GPA standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their service, leadership, and character.
Dues:
Annual dues for this chapter shall be $20.00 per member per year. Dues in a member’s first year are due within 30 days of induction. Members shall pay an additional $5.00 their first year for the current year NHS member t-shirt. Members are not required to buy a t-shirt each year of active membership.
Hours:
Each member must complete and document within the published deadlines, 20 service hours per academic year and 5 service hours during the summer between sophomore and junior years of membership and between junior and senior years of membership.
Meetings:
Active members must attend at least 80% of the regular monthly meetings during the school year in order to remain a member in good standing. When a member is unable to attend a meeting and informs the adviser in advance of the scheduled meeting, he/she may watch the video of the missed meeting in the week immediately following the missed meeting, under the supervision of the adviser who will give the member all handouts distributed at the meeting. Under these circumstances, the meeting will no longer be considered “missed.”
