Tesnatee Gap Elementary School is participating in the Elementary School Science Olympiad this spring. Students are chosen on their test scores, classroom performance, and teacher recommendations. Science Olympiad is a national non-profit organization designed to enhance the quality of science education, to increase student interest in science, and to provide recognition for student achievement in these events. The Elementary Science Olympiad tournament is an inter-scholastic competition consisting of teams to compete in various science topics. Students will prepare ahead of time for each event.

Science Olympiad will meet afterschool on designated days from 3:00-4:30. Students will need to be picked up from practice promptly at 4:30 at the bus loading area. Students not picked up will be sent to afterschool. A schedule will be sent home along with a permission slip that must be signed and returned in order for the students to stay afterschool.

Each afterschool practice will be dedicated to becoming familiar with 3 or 4 of the science competition events. Students will want to continue to practice or read about the topics at home in order to gain more information about the topics. Students with the most knowledge will be selected to compete in the event; however, all students will participate in as many events as possible. A list of the event topics will be given out at the first meeting.
