Bio:

I was born and raised in Anniston, AL. In 1987, I left home to attend Auburn University where I later earned my Bachelor's degree. The day after college graduation I married Stephen Horton, and we moved to San Diego for a short time as he was enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Later, we were stationed in Bremerton, WA; Virginia Beach, VA; and Charleston, SC. After my husband's military retirement, we moved to LaGrange, GA to be closer to our aging parents. It was there that I returned to school to earn my Master's degree as well as my certification to teach from LaGrange College. My husband and I have two grown sons, Matthew (25) and Seth (22), and a Yorkshire terrier named Layla (my only daughter). We currently reside in Blairsville.

I taught English Language Arts for five years at Callaway Middle School in LaGrange. I was voted "Teacher of the Year" by my faculty peers. I also served as team leader, content leader, mentor, and gifted coordinator during my time at Callaway. This is my third year at WCMS. I serve on the MTSS system team and am currently on the Leadership team at WCMS for 2018-19. I love interacting with my students and learning what motivates them. A wise person once told me that the best way to learn is to teach. I greatly enjoy doing research with my students and learning right along beside them.
