HAT DAY

MCES allows students to wear hats to school on Fridays to raise money for Relay for Life. To wear a hat, the student will need to give their teacher $1 on Friday when they get to class. The hat must be school appropriate and is to be worn, not played with, during the school day.

Graded Papers

You'll see a green slip attached to any "graded papers". The green slipped must be signed and returned to the teacher, as well as any papers attached with the green slip.

MAP Testing & DIBELS

If your child cames home talking about testing, he/she was referring to the MAP and DIBELS assessments. These are initial diagnostic tools for us to see a baseline in reading fluency. We know as proficient readers, it is easier to comprehend complex text if  we can read with fluency and expression. If a child is struggling with reading fluency, we will use other diagnostic tools to see if the fluency deficit is causing issues with other reading skills like comprehension. These assessments are screeners, so your child cannot study for them. If you want your child to improve his/her reading fluency, we recommend reading a "just right" text repeatedly with an emphasis on reading with expression.  DIBELS Parent Guide

Reading Logs

Be sure to sign your child's reading log and support reading 20 minutes nightly at home. This will help them TREMENDOUSLY, and there is research to support this belief.

If your child reads 850 minutes during this 9 weeks of school, then he/she will get to join the Jump House Party at school! This will be a fun event to celebrate our readers!
