Dear Wheeler MS Ohana,

The Hawaiian word Pilina means association, relationship and connection. Pilina is similar to the word pili which means binded together and connected. The Hawaiian Lei is created by stringing or weaving together local flowers and greens. At Wheeler Middle School, we hope to promote the weaving of school, families and communities through activities.

WMS Quarantine “Quisine” - Holiday Edition

With the holiday season just around the corner and the thought of not being able to gather with friends and family, we would like to invite you to help us create an online cookbook filled with holiday family favorites!

Between now and Sunday, January 3, 2021, Wheeler Middle School’s Blue Zone’s committee is inviting WMS families to submit recipes for their favorite holiday dishes and treats. We’ll include the submissions on our school’s Community Engagement Page (WMS Pilina) for everyone to view.

The WMS Blue Zone’s committee would like to promote healthy eating over the holidays so for those interested in submitting vegetarian holiday recipes, your recipe will be entered into a random drawing to win a $25 gift card from Foodland. Blue Zones Project Hawaii has also donated prizes for us to give away via a random drawing to 1 student, 1 parent and 1 faculty/staff member for their submissions.

• Phone number (this will not be posted with your recipe, it’s just in case we need to contact you about your recipe submission).

• Clear photo of recipe or attach a file or type directly in email

• Clear photo of the prepared dish *please note, it’s okay to have people in photo, just remember it’ll be posted on the Community Engagement Page (WMS Pilina)

• Short story about this recipe (what makes this a holiday favorite?)

*Please keep in mind that your recipe will be posted “as is” so please make sure the recipe is complete and specific (measurements, pan sizes, time, temperature, cook time, etc).

Recipes must be submitted no later than midnight on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Late submissions will not be accepted.

All submitted recipes will be available for viewing on the Community Engagement Page (WMS Pilina)
