1. Where can I track my hours?
All hours are tracked and visible using on the Wheeler Community Service website. A separate spreadsheet for the current school year as well as a running 4 year total is available. Students may look up their hours by using their student ID number.
2. How will I be notified if I qualify for a letter or medallion?
All students may utilize the Wheeler Community Service website to determine if they meet the
criteria for a service letter or medallion. In addition, students will be notified via their
firstname.lastname@students.cobbk12.org E-mail address (CTLS login).
3. I have already received a letter for community service. What award is available if I letter a
second or third year?
After receiving the actual letter, students have a choice of a Community Service pin or bar as an
award.
4. I attended an event and the teacher submitted my hours for me yet they do no appear on my
record. What do I do?
Please contact Sean Kurkjian at sean.kurkjian@cobbk12.org for any service hour discrepancies.
5. What is the maximum number of hours that can be earned for a single type of event?
Students are allowed to earn a maximum of 8 hours for a single day or 20 hours for a single type of
event.
Example A: A student volunteers at a week long service camp for 40 hours; however, a maximum
of 20 hours for this single event will be logged.
Example B: A student volunteers with Wheeler Recycling for 1.5 hours/week for a total of 20 weeks (30 hours
total) yet only a maximum of 20 hours will be logged.
Please note: Wheeler Learning Links and Magnet Learning Links are exempt from volunteer hour
caps. Students are allowed to volunteer an unlimited number of hours at these two service events
only.
6. Can I earn service hours for events outside of Wheeler High School?
Yes. The Community Service Honors Society is now allowing students to log hours for any
volunteer opportunity outside of school. Please note that these hours must be verified by an
adult sponsor that is not related to the student.
7. What are the cutoffs for hours to be counted for a specific academic year?
In order for students to be recognized for their service by receiving a letter/pin/bar for a particular year
all hours must be documented by April 30th of that year. Any hours accumulated after this date will
automatically be counted for the next school year. For incoming freshman, they may begin documenting
hours the day after their last day of 8th grade year (i.e. any hours accumulated the summer before they enter
high school will count toward their freshman year total.)
