Mr. Taze Lamb and I.
Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that develops aircraft, missiles, rotary and mission systems, and spacecraft. Their mission is to solve complex challenges, advance scientific discovery and deliver innovative solutions to help our customers keep people safe. My mentor, Mr. Taze Lamb, is a project manager at Lockheed Martin and is currently working on utilizing drones to give real time maps of the area around facilities.
I worked on rebuilding and calibrating a wind tunnel for my school. Working virtually three days a week and in-person once a week, I did research on the sensors necessary in a wind tunnel, the methods and processes aerospace engineers take to calibrate wind tunnels, and how to interpret wind tunnel data.
The Pitsco X-Stream wind tunnel.
Me recording our first preliminary calibration test.
For my research project, I rebuilt a Pitsco X-Stream wind tunnel and then calibrated its sensors so that it can read accurate results from two different airfoils. The process was documented and compiled into a user manual that will be utilized in order to help future projects at Wheeler High School in testing their articles. This user manual will also be a guide for Pitsco to create their own user manual for all of their wind tunnels.
