REGISTRATION:
Participants register for courses directly through the center. An attendance sheet will be provided to the instructor on the first day of the class. Accurate attendance records are the responsibility of the instructor. A complete attendance sheet will be expected at the end of the course or workshop. If a course is under subscribed, TCWH reserves the right to cancel the course and will notify the registrants of the cancellation.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The instructor or facilitator of a course or collegial circle is expected to provide TCWH with a course description to be used in the teacher center newsletter. Your course description should mention the objectives and outcomes of the course as well as the target audience and NYS standards your course will address. Meeting dates, times and location must also be included. All activities sponsored by TCWH and held on weekdays may not begin before 3:45. If after the first session the entire group agrees to an earlier meeting time, it is the responsibility of the instructor to let the teacher center director know of the change. A reasonable and practical amount of work will be required from each participant in the course. The instructor is responsible for collecting and turning assignments in to the teacher center at the end of the course. The instructor is required to submit daily objectives and corresponding activities for each course or collegial circle prior to the class being advertised in the newsletter.
MATERIALS:
If the participants in your course are going to require any special materials, i.e.: texts, folders, etc. the teacher center will purchase these materials. It is the responsibility of the instructor to provide a list of such materials to the teacher center at least a month prior to the first class. Texts may require more time. Plan accordingly.
ATTENDANCE POLICY;
Participants enrolled in a one credit in-service course for credit or WHB stipend are expected to attend class for 15 hours. It is the responsibility of the instructor to be sure that all participants sign the attendance sheet provided by the teacher center during each session. Participants enrolled in a three credit graduate class must attend a total of 37.5 hours. Teacher center courses are scheduled so that one make-up session is built into the schedule. No other make up times will be provided to participants. Instructors are expected to adhere to the times posted in the Teacher Center newsletter. We are all professionals and expect participants to adhere to the policies of TCWH.
BREAK PROCEDURES:
Most of the participants are attending a course or workshop after a long day of work, therefore breaks are permitted. The guideline for breaks is 10-15 minutes per 3 hours of instruction. If no formal breaks are provided, it is acceptable to end class 10-15 minutes early. If yours is a course that lasts longer than 5 hours in any one day, a lunch break of a half an hour can be provided or you may substitute a “working lunch.”
BUILDING INFORMATION:
The teacher center can offer your course in your building, if you desire. A building use form must be completed and approved by your superintendent. The teacher center will be responsible for completing the building use forms for classes offered in the Westhampton Beach schools.
PARTICIPANT EVALUATION:
Any participant who does not meet the minimum attendance requirements and/or who does not turn in a lesson or any other assignment will not receive the in-service credit. The instructor will notify the teacher center of any individual who should not receive the credit. The instructor will provide letter grades for participants in graduate level courses.
Payment to the instructor will not be processed until evaluations, completed attendance sheets and lesson plans are received in the Teacher Center of the Western Hamptons.
ACTIVITY EVALUATIONS:
In an effort to assess how well we are meeting the needs of our members, the teacher center asks that all participants complete an activity evaluation form at the end of each class. These forms will be provided to the instructor on the first day of class. They should be distributed during the last session and collected by a teacher center designee to be returned to the teacher center. Copies will be provided to the instructor upon request.
For your information, we have learned from participant evaluations that courses that adhere to the following guidelines are most well received:
• Do not stray from the objectives as advertised in the course description
• Begin on time
• Provide an agenda for each session
• Provide clear goals for every session
• Include varied activities
• Make the best use of handouts
• Meet the varied levels of expertise in the group
I have read the above guidelines and agree to adhere to them as an instructor/facilitator employed by the Teacher Center of the Western Hamptons.
