The purpose of this website is to highlight how technology and education can be used as a combined tool to further learning and development. We live in a world where most students have constant access to the worldwide web, so we must adjust our teaching standards to include ways for them to access their lessons and standards. This will help teachers be able to reach out and facilitate learning in an entirely new way, with efficiency and more classroom engagement.
As technology advances, so must we. Our children are learning at a much faster pace, relying on information being accessible from anywhere, at any time, in a matter of seconds from the palm of their hands. Educational technology is the way of the future, allowing teachers to utilize it to connect with students in a way that fits the current climate of accessible technology. By meeting our students in a manner that they understand, using technology resources, we are able to motivate them, foster creativity, encourage participation and truly find ways for students to enjoy learning once more. Utilizing technology also provides us with a more broad ability to assess data, tailoring our lessons in a more profound way to meet our students where they are currently at, academically.
To ensure that all students have access to the Educational Technology, our school district provides Chromebooks for every student. There is also a technology questionaire sent out at the beginning of school, so we can provide the appropriate resources to families without access to internet. This allows us to utilize our technology resources in a manner that makes all students have equitable use of all of their learning materials.
Each student, before receiving their Chromebooks, must agree to follow the standards and guidelines of use. Those guidelines include agreeing to meet academic integrity by only visiting approved sites and not tampering with the filters and programs installed to prohibit students from accessing harmful material.
School officials will have programs installed, in accordance with the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA, 2000), to address any concerns from parents or administrators about access to obscene material.
Student information will also be protected by following The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), which specifically student privacy regarding their educational records.
Technology is everchanging, it is true, however, we must remember to stress the importance of social responsibility to our students. What is posted online is out there floating in the web forever, no amount of deleting can change that. We must, as educators, continue to remind students and faculty alike of the implications that can happen due to posting everything online. While we do understand that technology is the way of the future, we also have to remember to stress human interaction, kindness, respect, and being a good humanbeing.
If we are utilizing educational technology, we must pair it with social responsibility and respect for our peers.
